Help - Where to stay in Cinque Terre?
Anyone visited these towns recently? What's the best place to stay? We've heard some good things about Vernazza. Also heard that its easy to just show up and get a room -- we're going in mid-August, do you think that's possible during the high season?

Thanks much for your help -- this board is great!

Hi Mark,

We stayed at the Porto Roca in Monterosso al Mare and loved it--room with large terrace overlooking the water. The CT is all wonderful!

Byrd
We're going in Sept. and staying at Baradin's B&B in Manarola based on some recommendations. We also considered Edi's in Riomaggiore, but she requires a cash deposit.

August is supposed to be very, very crowded so I would recommend that you make reservations in advance.

There's a website that provides really good info. on Cinque Terre. I can't remember it offhand, but write me if you're interested.

Eunice

Like Byrd, we stayed at the Porto Roca in Monterosso. Highly recommend the rooms with the terrace.

I think you need to re-think that 'just show up' idea --- summer months are peak season at the Cinque Terre and you really do need reservations at that time of year. The accommadations that are available are all smaller hotels, bed & breakfast or people renting rooms. Although there are 5 villages, they are small & more people have discovered the area.

http://www.cinqueterre.it/index_e.htm

http://home.sunrise.ch/avong/cinque_terre/index.htm

http://www.italyone.com/Welcome/Liguria/Cinqueterre/

http://www.navigazionegolfodeipoeti.it/homee.html
