Help! Vienna hotels all booked!

So here I'm thinking I'm planning well ahead of time for a trip to Prague and Vienna in late August. Every hotel search engine for Vienna tells me there's nothing available or it's a hotel that's not very conveniently located. I've also checked with hotels directly as well, and they're all telling me that there's no availability from Aug 31-Sep 2. I figured there must be some kind of convention in town. Any suggestions for getting a hotel?

Hi Ren,
Why not call a travel agent and see if there are some big conventions in town that week?

Just a thought: Could it be possible that the hotels are not accepting reservations that far ahead?

Try the Hotel Drei Kronen? Probably best to do it hotel by hotel. Stayed there for 4 nights and really liked it. Right by a large market also, and 2 min walk from the U-bahn

I stayed at Hotel Drei Kronen as well and it is nice. My room was a little small but it had bathroom and was very clean. The buffet breakfast is great. I did a search for the hotel and it led me to the vienna.nethotels.com for Drei Kronen and it appeared that it may have rooms available. It is just outside the ring and about an 8 minute walk to the Opera House. It is near the University and visiting professors stay there so I had excellent conversations at breakfast. The open market across the street is nice and there is a grocery store in the next block.

Try the Hotel Austria. It is a small budget hotel in the historical center of town (inside the ring), on a quiet pedestrians-only street.

The Web site is at http://members.ping.at//hotelaus/
(click on the British flag for English)

Try the Fuerstenhof right across the square from Westbahnhof. It is just a 5 minute U-Bahn ride to city center. Or a nice little walk down Mariahilferstrasse.
Take a look at their site:
http://hotel-fuerstenhof.com/index2.htm
We stayed there in May 2001 and it was absolutely wonderful.

We have a reservation for a hotel on the Ringstrasse in early October. Hotels in this area will probably be available in August but unfortunately they are expensive.

If you don't mind expensive hotels, these hotels all have 800 numbers in the U.S.
Imperial, Bristol, Ana, Sacher, SAS Palais, Marriott. Hotels with more competitive prices are less likely to have rooms available.
