Positano is too tourist-oriented for me..I chose Amalfi as a base. Although I will not be returning this trip, I would also recommend a few days on Capri.

abcdc,

If you'e still looking in Positano, check out the lovely jr. suites at The Hotel Poseidon. It's one of my favorite hotels, and only a short uphill walk from Le Sirenuse, so it has even better views, IMHO. The hotel treats guests fabulously, and the food is outstanding.

I am not going until next spring but I have all but decided to split between Amalfi and Naples. I only have a week, unfortunately. I wrote to a few Amalfi hotels about a month ago (Luna Convento, Floridiana (#1 on TA) , etc) but none of them reponded. Maybe they are busy with summer guests. I will try again in a month or so..I can't imagine I will have much trouble since I want to go in late April. You have been a huge help to me, by the way!!

...SeaUrchin, I made a mistake, Residenza del Duca is #1 on TA; I also wrote to them back in early summer. Luna Convento is pretty far down the list but recent reviews have been good...decisions, decisions...

A sea view would be great and I want to be able to walk to restaurants and shops.... I think the SCaterina might not be worth the price since we will not be there in swimming weather....

Glad I could be of help. I will be trippin' around that area in Sept/Oct so I could check something out for you if I get the chance.

Res. del Duca looks great! I know the little square that it is on but I don't remember seeing it so it must look like a villa. I vote for it.

SeaUrchin: What a wonderful offer! I would love it if you checked out the Del Duca and the Floridiana! Where in the area will you be..or are you going to wing it? Are you planning to stay in Naples at all and if so, where? ekscrunchy

I am winging it, driving around the South but if I am in Amalfi I will check them out for you. I may have to stop in Amalfi for some hot chocolate anyway.
