Help us get from Lucerne to Bellagio please

I can't seem to get good info on the sbb site for a train/ferry tomorrow from Lucerne to Bellagio. I know we can go via train to Comi and then ferry, but there is another possible route through Lugano and Mennagio. The sbb rep in the train station couldn't find any trains that went to Menaggio. What's the story with that option??,
Thanks!!!! The ticketing system was down today, hopefully we won't have an issue mañana!!

Not Comi, Como. iPhone error.

I do not recall any train tracks in Menaggio. I suspect that one would take a bus from Lugano.

Dukey1 Aug 4th, 2013 07:40 AM

There is NO train service directly to Menaggio or Bellagio, only to Varenna via Milan or Tirano (a scenic route the latter but long).

ONE way would be to take a train to LUGANO and change to the bus which takes you over to Menaggio and from there take the short ferry ride over to Bellagio.

There are other routes which I am certain you'll hear about quite quickly

You can easily find the above at www.sbb.ch/en input Menaggio Via Mazzini as your destination.

Whichever way you go, you need to know the ferry schedules and, obviously, arrive before the last ferry departure of the day to Bellagio.

Train to Como, walk to ferry to Bellagio. It's a beautiful ride up the lake.

Thanks!!! Does anyone know the Swiss/Italian border city on this route for purposes of where my swisspass will no longer be valid. Is it Lugano?

Dukey1 Aug 4th, 2013 12:28 PM

I cannot remember if that is a Swiss Postal Bus or not..if it is then the SwissPass would work.

CAUTION: make certain you know the bus schedule from Lugano and that when you arrive in Lugano there will BE a bus leaving.

Be aware that the distance between Menaggio and Lugano is only about 17 miles.

"Train to Como, walk to ferry to Bellagio." In order to do this as described, you'd have to train to Milano Centrale, take a taxi or the metro to the Milano Nord Cadorna train station and take another train to the Como Nord Lago station. Trains from Milano Centrale go to the Como S. Giovanni station which is a short taxi or bus ride from the ferry dock.

If you decide you want to ferry to Bellagio from Como, just train to Como S. Giovanni and take a taxi to the ferry dock. There are some options from Luzern that involve no connections/changes.

Chiasso is the last station in Switzerland before you get to Como.

We are here! It's gorgeous and very warm! So thankful for the A/C in the hotel!!
We took the 9:18 train from Lucerne to como s. Giovanni with one charge in Arth. We arrived a little late and jumped into a taxi to go to the ferry, we were going to have to wait an hour for the ferry. So we decided to just take the cab the entire way to the hotel. It was 80 euros, the driver told us the ferry for the 4 of us would have been 60 plus the cab to the ferry. Don't know if this is true, but we were happy in the cab rather than dragging our luggage around. Although I was getting a bit car sick!!

MiamiBeachMomma Aug 5th, 2013 10:16 PM

Now when we leave we are staying one night near MXP, as our flight is in the early am the next day

What's the best way back without a cab??
Ferry to como? Other other location?
Train to mxp or Milan and then change.

The tren italia site is telling me I have invalid arrival and destination cities.

MiamiBeachMomma Aug 5th, 2013 10:27 PM

This is an option...
Ferry to
como nord lago
Train to saronno
Train to mxp

Correct??

kybourbon Aug 6th, 2013 05:04 AM

MXP is not the name of a town, Enter Malpensa.

Newbie00 Aug 6th, 2013 06:37 AM

sadly there is no easy/quick way

ferry to Varenna, train to Milano centrale then train to Malpensa.

Otherwise, taxi to malpensa is about 80 euro's or so

MiamiBeachMomma Aug 6th, 2013 08:33 AM

Got it....ferry to como. Train como nord lago to saronno. Then the malapensa express from saronno directly to terminal one. Will take approximately 2 1/2 hours.
Not sure on the fare yet...

Jean Aug 6th, 2013 02:51 PM

The ferry tariff from Bellagio to Como is:

10,40 EUR ordinary adult fare
8,30 EUR ordinary reduced fare for adults over 65, Monday through Friday
1,50 EUR ordinary children's fare (ages 4-11)

There is a charge for over-sized luggage and, supposedly, for a second piece of luggage (per person). We've never been charged for the second piece, but that could be because we don't travel in high season.

The fast ferry Bellagio to Como takes about 1 hour. The slow ferry (much more pleasant IMO) takes about 2 hours (with a couple of slightly longer ones throughout the day). The train from Como Nord Lago to Malpensa Aeroporto takes either 1:17 or 1:40 hours depending on which departing train you catch. The longer rides involve going into Milan or a long connection at Saronno. There's really nothing at the Saronno station, so I would try to avoid that option.
