Help, traveling to Barcelona with Baby

Hello, my husband and I are traveling to Barcelona this October and I feel overwhelmed with the planning. We will be there for 4 days. Questions I have:
What is the best neighborhood to rent an apartment in a nice, safe area that isn't too touristy and loud. Within walking distance to restaurants, coffee shops, shopping and easy access public transportation (we are taking the train to Madrid).

Not sure if we are going to rent a car. Should I bring my son's car seat? We may take a taxi from the airport to our hotel/apt. How do mom's travel with a baby on public transportation? The thought of riding on a bus or train with my baby not in a car seat makes me nervous. I'm a first time mom and I don't know how this works. Does baby sit on mom's lap?

I'm bringing my son's stroller, a city mini gt since it reclines (good for his naps and changing diapers)and its easy to fold up. Will it be too big for the sidewalks?

What would be a good itinerary for 4 days with a baby?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

<<Not sure if we are going to rent a car. >>

For Barcelona? Don't. Driving is for locals, not tourists. Take the Metro.

<<Should I bring my son's car seat?>>

Doubt it. We didn't for either toddler. How old is junior?

<<How do mom's travel with a baby on public transportation?>>

They have the strollers or carry the little buggers.

No. How small do you think the sidewalks are? Even in Barri Gotic you'll be fine.

We rented an apartment from likelivingthere.com - they were most helpful with suggestions of all kinds during our decision making process.

We stayed in the el Born area in a beautiful apartment that had everything set up just as though we were living there. It was very central for walking to many sights, without being noisy. The second bedroom was away from the street front, so no noise to disturb little ones. Di

The law in Europe says that child seats can be omitted from taxis, trains and buses.
If you do bring a child seat it may have different anchorage points. Trains and buses will not have an anchorage points for the seat.
Will the airline allow you to bring both the buggy and a car seat without you being charged extra?
