help train tickets EXPENSIVE

here is the scoop. we will be arriving at cdg on apr 30 at 9:30 am. I was wanting to take a train into sarlat that day. (will rent a car 2 days later) the rates i am getting seem to be around 100 euros. same for my trip back to cdg from avignon. on the morning of may 07. we have a 11:30 am flight that morning back to the states. what should i do. maybe a rail pass or rent a car from cdg? i am confused!

Hi M,

On your other post, I told you that you can train from CDG to Bordeaux, Libourne or Brive for 22E pp.

If you can't find it, click on your name.

If you have an 11:30 AM flight, you should be in Paris the night before.

rather than paying 100 euros each one the France Railpass would be cheaper, even with the reservation fees included.

I'm sure Ira is correct however and you will find a lower online fare.

For pass info i always refer folks to two great sources: www.ricksteves.com and www.budgeteuropetravel.com - lots on France Railpasses and travel on each site and sell passes as well. Look for the Saver Pass - two folks or more traveling together

PREMs are a bit tricky if landing and taking off

since they are non-refundable/changeable i believe you must build in fudge time for planes to be late. A pass can be used on any train subject to reservations being available so reserve when and if you buy the pass and then if you don't make that train at least you only lose the reservation fee and can use the pass on any other train perhaps. Indeed there is a one-day France Railpass for about $110 in second class - could twin with a cheap fare returning to Paris when you time is cemented in concrete.
