Help! Thirty-something couple looking for quaint Spanish village to make home base for cycling and eating vacation...

Hi, We received such useful info from fellow Fodorites when planning previous vacations, thought that we should reach out to the Spain forum for advise. We are looking to go somewhere, anywhere actually, for about 10 days in Sept or Oct of this year. We would like to bring our road bikes and do day trips(@75kms), as well as eat well, and experience great wines. We would prefer the charm of a smaller village rather than big city, however are open to suggestions. Accomadation budget about $150cad. Any ideas/opions would be greatly appreciated. We look forward to hearing from you...Thanks, Tanya and Ben

Hi Tanya:

I returned from Pedraza de la Sierra in the province of Segovia in May. I stayed at Hopederia de Santo Domingo
www.hospederiadesantodomingo.com

I will try to get more info for you re biking, but while I was there the staff (Lourdes) commented that they had alot of tourists go through there on bikes. I was surprised. It is beautiful but somewhat far from the hubub. Look for my post under Pedraza in 2 parts. I am working on it still.

Do ou speak Spanish ?

Check out Parador.es as many paradors are in smaller villages and are really special.

For your plans my suggestion is either La Rioja or Navarra

Sounds interesting as charming villages can be found throughout Spain. You can take a look at Maribel's Guides to see a fairly good representation of what a number of people include on this list.
