Help! Shld I stay near Luxembourg garden in Paris? And does anyone have # for relais medici?

I read a posting here about a hotel near the Luxembourg gardens in Paris called Relais Mecici. I've combed thru all the Paris hotel indexes on the web (for hours!) and can't find the number or website to contact the hotel. Do you think this area in the left bank is too far away from everything? We only have days and want Musee D'orsay, Eiffel T, and a walk along St. Germain street. That's about it. I figure it might be nice to stay near the Luxembourg gardens (it'll be april so the flowers shld be out). If anyone has a better hotel they LOVE in St. Germain or Luxembourg G, would love to hear about it. It's not easy finding the right hotel (esp one that doesn't accept dogs, we're allergic).
Thx!!!

Molly
I believe in contacting the hotel directly, to avoid miscommunication and to try to be sure I am getting the best price.
You can fax the Hotel le Relais Medici
at 1 40 46 83 39
I haven't stayed there, but the
write-up in "Cheap Sleeps in Paris" makes it sound dreamy. The especially
praised rooms include #22,39, 26 and slightly-smaller #24.

According to Fodors Hotels of Charm, the Relais Medici allows pets. Two hotels that don't, but are between St. Germain and the Seine are Le Regent (parishotels.com [#23 on their map], e-mail [email protected]) and Left Bank St. Germain, which is a Best Western. Both have been discussed positively on the forum.

There is one that does not allow pets on the southwest side of Luxembourg gardens: le Jardin du Luxembourg, has also had good comments, but it seems a bit far out to me. (hotelboulevard.com)

I have done a search, but the forum's search engine seems not to be working today. If these hotels interest you, you might post a new question with their names in the title.

Hope this helps.

sorry
I hadn't noticed the pet question.
I haven't stayed at le Regent but I stayed right down the street and can vouch for its excellent location.
It has been much-praised on this forum which if the search function works you can find. The following was posted in January 2000, not by me.
"It is a nice place, one of the few places that can guarantee you the size of the room. We
opted for their larger deluxe room. The neighborhood is my favorite in the Left Bank (in Paris for that matter). just around the corner is Buci, a little market street with morning market and lots of cafes. There are probably 50 good and charming restaurants within two or three blocks and I have probably eaten at 20 of them. The famous Le Precope is a block away (incidentally, that is my least favorite place in the entire area). There are even two laundromats within about a block of the hotel, if that becomes an issue. It is perhaps a slightly noisy street, but Le Regent is air conditioned and has double paned windows so that shouldn't be a problem. Contintental breakfast was a nice assortment of foods in the lower level with cave-like exposed stone walls... Employees are lovely, speak English and were most informative in answering questions. For the price, I highly recommend it." (Elaine's note: I personally did not find that street to be noisy but I am used to a certain amount of urban noise.
Hotel also praised in the book Cheap Sleeps in Paris. Nice décor, modern bathrooms, air conditioning, hair dryers, tv. Nice location on rue Dauphine, just a few blocks from Pont Neuf on the left bank. Some rooms have views of Notre Dame phone 1 46 34 59 80, fax 1 40 51 05 07.)

You can also look for comments at www.paris.org under "hotels".
email: [email protected]

I have a Paris file; if you'd like to see it, email me.

Molly--- all the following websites have pictures, e-mail and other contact information regarding the Hotel Relais Medicis:

http://www.smallandeleganthotels.com...is_Medicis.htm

http://www.search-rooms.com/uspages/hotels/h235.htm

http://www.cosy-hotels.com/hotels/hotel-235.htm

http://digital.france.com/hotels/3starparis.ihtml

Also, the following site has been posted countles times on this forum, but unequivocably it always amazes somebody new. If you type a Paris address on the corresponding fields it shows you pictures of the establishment and up and down the street. It is a blast.

http://wfb.pagesjaunes.fr/pj.cgi?lang=en

Oops--Jardins du Luxembourg is on the southeast side of gardens, near RER stop Luxembourg. And this is not a guarantee that the hotels I listed above don't allow pets, but that's the information in Fodors (given by the hotels, I presume).
