Help! Positano restaurants narrowed down
Ok....I think I have the restaurants narrowed down for Positano, but need the experts to finalize.
Ristorante Da Constantino-dinner, window seat II Ritrovo- dinner in Montepertuso Vivaro Wine Bar in Praiano- dinner Lo 'Guarracino- lunch or dinner Bruno-lunch Saraceno d ' Oro Maybes... La Vincenzo Donna Rosa mediteraneo Da Adolfo-for beach restaurant? la Tagliata- read some really good reviews, but also some bad ones. Don't think I would like a huge plate of suspect meats....reminds me of more of a family restaurant. Am I missing something? Can't wait for your replies!! If you have entree recs feel free to give those too. And you want hurt my feelings if some that I have picked out ....you don't like. That is why I'm asking! Thanks a bunch! |
I'm not an expert but I'll comment on La Tagliata. We were a party of 4 and had a blast here. We're not foodies so we had no issues with the food. The food kept coming, the wine more so...the gentleman grilling the meat kept yelling something and my somewhat "under the influence" brother-in-law replied - it became the mantra for our trip and the meal here was the perfect introduction to Italy for my in-laws.
We also enjoyed dinner at Da Constantino and Bruno. Have a great trip. PS We knew there was no menu at La Tagliata...not everyone is aware of this when they go. |
Thanks Travelfan! I hear that it is a lot of food....but is the taste good? The wine flowing sounds good though! Glad you had fun! Can't wait till our trip!

We loved the starters, the salads, the breads and cheeses and the flowing wine but not so much the mains. Still it was a fun experience for not too much $$. I would recommend going before dark when you can appreciate the fantastic view. Villa Rosa just called them and they sent a driver for us at no extra charge.

What we had was good...but again, we're not gourmet people.
Have a wonderful trip. |
Thanks everyone. Anyone have any comments on other restaurants on the list?
|
We are big fans of lo Guarracino, went there for lunch, returned another evening for dinner - DH swears it was the best lemon pasta ever. We also enjoyed our dinner at La Tagliata, it was quite the experience.

I looked at your list again and noted bruno's. We had dinner there and it was delicious. There may be more atmospheric places though. We were planning on eating outside -you have to cross the street and there are candle lit tables set along the street railing - but it was raining a bit so had to go inside. It is on the same street as Villa Rosa. When staying at Villa Rosa we loved to go to the Delikatessen to get wonderful supplies, fresh mozzarella, salads, olives, salamis for lunch on the terrace. Lucky you!
|
The candleit terrace of Le Sirenuse was wonderful, food and ambience and service were fabulous.
We also loved Brunos, great service, lovely meal, great views. |
Saraceno D'Oro was great! The location/view is not the best but the food was. My fiance and I also liked Chez Black for lunch or dinner near the beach. La Tagliata was not worth it for us, OK food but not worth the ride there and back.

These are great everyone! anyone been ti II Ritrovo or Donna Rosa? I think they are near each other.
Micheline- you stayed at Villa Rosa? we are in rm 32 or 34 they said. do you remember anything about the rooms? Love the idea about lunch on the terrace. Where is the Deli you are speaking of.....and did you have a fridge to keep food and wine? |

Sorry it was 4 years ago so can't recall room number. We were in the family room with the huge terrace. I think you should be ok on the third floor. You probably know that every morning they bring a delicious breakfast on the terrace. We did have a fridge. You will see the Deli on the way up the stairs to Villa Rosa. You are right across the street from the expensive Sireneuse so you have the same view for a quarter of the price. We absolutely loved our stay. The reception will try to steer you to Cafe Positano if you ask for recommendations. Not so good. They were very nice about phoning La Tagliata though. Look at Trip Advisor reviews and you will see client's pictures. Lucky you!

We did not stay at the Villa Rosa, but pretty much next door at the Hotel California. If you have one of the rooms with balcony that look out and over Le Sireneuse, then you will have the same view we did, which was spectacular. I would still be sitting on the balcony if I could. Have a wonderful vacation. Oh, and now that I think about it we also ate at Chez Black (it was during the Euro Cup and they had a big tv); it was a fun beach experience, the food was pretty good too.

Thanks everyone! Now I have to narrow down Rome restaurants for 3 nights. If u have a rec let me know.

Dined with my wife at La Donna Rosa several years ago and we thoroughly enjoyed it. It is outside of Positano, though, in Monte Pertuso, but they'll send a car to pick you up and drop you off in Positano. 10 minute exciting drive on the cliff road above the city.
I thought Chez Black was too touristy and not great food, but that may have changed. |
We've been twice to Il Ritrovo and can't wait to go back for a third time in a few weeks. Undoubtedly one of the best meals I've had in my entire life! Make sure you visit at dusk so you can enjoy the view from the picture windows. You won't remember it after all that wonderful food plus the personal limoncello bottles the chef used to give away at the end of each meal.
As for the beach restaurant, Da Adolpho, if that's the one I'm thinking of where you get picked up in a big red boat and taken across to a gravelly beach with a shack on it, skip it. Worst meal we had. Didn't enjoy it at all and had to wait a really long time for the boat ride back to town. |
