Help planning my german vacation
Hello,
I am looking for a any advice on my germany trip. My plan is as follows: Arrive into Berlin (spend 3 days) Depart from Berlin to Prague (spend 3 days) Visit Dresden for the day **After Dresden I have 2 and half free days and do not know where to spend them. I need to be back in Berlin to take my flight home so I am looking for places that do not require more than a 6 hour train ride to get back to berlin. Any suggestions? Thank you |
Brittany,
From Dresden head over to Bamberg. You can read about the town and find out why it is such a gem. Also, it will give you a smaller town experience as oppossed to the big cities you have been visiting. From Bamberg back to Berlin is whithin the 6 hour window. Another idea after Dresden would be to head over to the Harz mountain area if you wanted to see a little nature after the big cities. Lots of quaint, pretty little towns within 6 hours of Berlin. Enjoy the trip. |
You don't seriously visit Dresden just for a day? You could easily fill the other 2 and half days with Dresden and its surrounding, especially if you include some natural beauty like the National Park Saxon Switzerland. Or head to some small towns in the vicinity (Meissen, Freiberg, Bautzen, Görlitz) - all of them are worth seeing. Or visit castles/palaces/gardens (Moritzburg, Pillnitz, Weesenstein etc.), do a paddle steamer trip, ride steam railways ... do wine tasting, museums, porcelain manufacture tours ...
Why changing bases so often? |
Once you get to Dresden you may never want to leave. ;)
It's beautiful. I agree with Ingo. I'd say stay there and tour for the rest of your trip |
I also agree, stay in Dresden, visit the city and then the National Park. The Festunbg Koenigstein (castle) alone is worth a trip by bus or boat and return by train.
I never could figure out how the French POW kept in this castle managed to escape during WWII. |
I agree completely: spend your free days in Dresden. There would be more than enough to do in the city and its surroundings to fill a week or more. Ingo's list of suggestions will easily keep you busy.
My personal favourite is the wonderful palace at Moritzburg. Take that funny little steam train up there from Radebeul. |
