When I was planning our road trip through Spain, I used viamichelin as a guideline. The times were not 100% accurate, as we often got a little lost, missed a turn, or simply decided to stop to enjoy something along the way.
One rule that really saved us: drive times were not to exceed 3 hours. We planned all of our stops on that rule. This way we never ate up our time driving around and didn't get fatigued.
I wouldn't rule out sites like viamichelin. Just use it as a guideline.
