Help planning
My husband and I (in our late 40's) are planning a 2 week trip in July. We plan to fly into Zurich and out of Paris. My thoughts are to spend 3-4 night in the Bernese Oberland area, 3 nights in Colmar, France and 3 nights in Paris. We might add 2 nights in Baden Baden to do the spas. I'd like suggestions of places to stay in these cities.
What is the best town to stay in this area of Switzerland. Is getting to Lauterbrunnen or Murren too much for the day we arrive in Zurich? Would we be better off staying the first night in Inerlaken?
Is Luxembourg City worth an overnight?
We plan to use the train in Switzerland and Paris, but rent a car for Alsace and Black Forest area. Any ideas on best place to pick up and return car. Best rail pass options vs point to point tickets.
Thanks for your suggestions. This is our 6th trip to Europe- have been to Paris before but not the other areas.

I recommend two sources of information:

for all kinds of Switzerland information and for your stay in Colmar. In particular, I can give a personal unqualified recommendation to the Logis at Froeningen (closer to Mulhouse than to Colmar).

I think that Luxembourg city is hardly worthy of an overnight stay. This is based on a single 3 hour stop there (essentially just went to dinner), so you might get more informed opinions from others.

And I give a strong pitch for a great place to eat near Baden-Baden to Schloss Neuweier (about 15 minutes out of town) - - or even better, the Hotel Traube-Tonbach in Baiersbronn (though much less convenient - - more like 45-90 minutes out of town).

Best wishes,

Rex
Thanks for the advice! Anyone else?
I've enjoyed reading the notes on this website- have gotten lots of good ideas!

Diane - the likely reason you have not gotten any more responses is because your thread needs a better title. "Help planning" could be about anything/anywhere and does not tell anyone you are looking for info about Switzerland, Luxembourg, etc.

Look at some of the other threads - the ones that get the most useful responses have detailed titles so people who have information are more likely to read them.

I figured that one out and have put out a few more specific questions. Thanks for the advice.
