Help plan train from Segovia to Toledo

It's time to book the train segments! I booked Barcelona to Madrid at midnight last night on Renfe. It was so interesting doing this on the Spanish Renfe site where discounts are posted. :>) (Thanks, Maribel!)

From Segovia to Toledo it looks like we need the Cercanía in Madrid from Chamartín to Puerta de Atocha. Can we get a train direct from Segovia to Puerta de Atocha in Madrid? We'll be leaving Segovia early morning 15 September, and would like to arrive Toledo early the same day. How much time should I allow to change in Madrid? Do you think I can prebook the Ave/Avant segments?
I'd also like advice on the next combo: Toledo/Madrid/Cordoba, overnite, then Cordoba/Sevilla.

Thank you so much for your advice!

There is no direct connection from Segovia to Toledo. Forget the Cercanias. It's a commuter train and will be busy. I'd take a taxi to Atocha. It's much easier if you have any luggage. Allow at least 1-1/2 hours to make the connection.

In order to get the train to Cordoba and Sevilla you'll have to return to Madrid first.

I have taken the Cercanias train between Atocha and Chamartin during rush hour and wouldnt advise doing it if you have suitcases. But if you travel light, just a carry on, then it shouldnt be a problem.

You should be able to book the train segments in advance. By the way, congratulations in being able to book on the Renfe website, a feat not everybody is able to accomplish!

Thank you Robert and Cruiseluv!
So glad to have your replies. We will be traveling very light. We like cultural experiences like the cercanías, but will choose the fastest way to get to Atocha. A taxi it is!

So it looks like Segovia to Chamartín, 30 minutes. Cab to Atocha, maybe 15 minutes, plus time to find the correct vía for the Toledo leg. Robert, do you think we can do all 3 segments to arrive in Toledo in 1.5 hours?

We are staying in Madrid near Puerta de Atocha,so will have time to check out the station.

Then we have 2 nights in Segovia, then 2 nights in Toledo.

Is it best to buy round trip Madrid/Segovia, then round trip Madrid/Toledo? Allowing time for the change of stations in Madrid is the tricky part.

Mil Gracias para todo!!

Our last trip down the avenue took about 30 minutes in traffic. Getting to Atocha any quicker will depend on the traffic. I would allow one hour between arriving from Segovia and departing for Toledo.

You get a slight discount when purchasing a round trip ticket and an assurance that you have a seat.

Just what we needed to know. Thanks, Robert.

So I should book a round trip from Atocha to Toledo, too. Do you think 30 minutes is enough time at Atocha station before departing for Córdoba?

They usually announce the train about 20 minutes before departure, so 30 minutes should work.
