Help pick a hotel in Venice
 

Hi,
After reading all the great postings on this site, I?ve found a few hotels in Venice and received quotes for them. I would really appreciate some feedback on the choices. I'll be staying 2 nights. A family of 3 including 1 small toddler who might appreciate some room to play should the weather be too bad outside. I'll be there November 23-25 and have heard that it's flooding season, so if any of these hotels are in areas that may see some flooding, please let me know.

1. La Calcina: either change rooms each night for canal view for 150 Euros/night or the same double room without canal view at 107 Euros/night.
2. Ca Amadi: double room with canal view at 100 Euros/night.
3. Ca'Turelli: double room with view of garden at 90 Euros/night.
4. Palazzo Guardi: junior suite with view of canal at 99 Euros/night.
5. Casa Rezzonica: superior double room with canal view at 99 Euros/night.
6. Pensione Accademia: standard double room with canal view at 130 Euros/night.

Any comments or suggestions on which hotel to pick would be very helpful. Thank you.

with a toddler, if I had to choose between a view and more space for the same price, I'd pick the larger room. Some budget hotel rooms in Venice can be very small, especially if you're taking a double and hope to add in a crib or cot.

I've only stayed at Casa Rezzonico but loved EVERYTHING about it. The location was perfect (a quiet side street in a residential neighborhood, but close to Campo Santa Margherita and a little grocery store), the front desk people were so friendly and helpful, and the breakfast out in the garden was a fantastic experience. There are only 7 rooms, so you get lots of personalized attention. I expect your toddler would like to play out in the garden area (nice grassy spot!), and our room was very large by European standards, with a huge, new bathroom. Have a great time!

Did anyone happen to have any comments (good or bad) about Palazzo Guardi in Venice. The rooms look great and the prices seem very reasonable. Am just wondering if it also happens to be in a quiet location

My husband and I just got back from Italy. We stayed at Ca Amadi and really enjoyed our stay there. The staff was nice and very helpful when our luggage got lost. The location was great. The room was very nice.

I have stayed at Pensione La Calcina twice and love the place. I'd save the money and skip the canal view (I would hate to be changing rooms all the time). I stayed in a non-view room and it was quite nice, small, quiet, peaceful. You can have your breakfast out of the dock on the canal anyway in front of the hotel.

I'm staying at the Hotel Ala in Venice the beginning of July. Has anyone stayed there? It is reasonably priced. Thanks!

Have stayed at the Ala, about three times in the past 30 years along with the LaFenice, DoPozzi and Saturnia and have just made reservations for the start of Carnevale 2006 at the Ala.\

I highly recommend the Pensione Accademia, but with the garden view. Loved it! (It's on a smaller canal just off the grand canal so the canal view isn't going to be spectacular.)

Great breakfast buffet and terrific staff. A short walk from this hotel there's a pizza restaurant with tables right on the Grand Canal. cheap and good. It won't look like much, but when you sit down and pay inexpensive prices for good pizza, and see that Grand Canal view, you'll be happy!

Outside of our rooms (we had 2 rooms) was a public sitting room. there wasn't anybody in the sitting room so we felt like it was our sitting room, though it was public!

Just saw that this original thread got some more additions. We ended up staying at Pensione Accademia. It was beautiful. Our room was sort of corner, so while we have view of the small canel in front, if we leaned out, we see the grand canel off the side. Liked the location. Had a small grocery store near by so that was helpful, and close to Vaporati (sp?) stop. Nice breakfast. No flooding around that area when we were there. Had a great visit. Miss Italy a month after we got back :) One thing we got hooked on while in Italy was Venchi chocolate in triple layers of coffee, gianduja and chocolate. Haven't found that in the US. The closest I got was an internet purchase from chocosphere of triple layers of white and milk gianduja with chocolate. Anyone know where I can get the coffee kind without traveling to Italy?
