How bad is the misspelling? My passport shows as my name my First Name and Middle Initial. My tickets are always booked with just my first name. I've never had a problem, and no one has ever questioned it.

I just saw that you will be able to get this fixed. That's great! At least you'll be able to tell a 'story' afterwards (do you remember when we noticed your name misspelled 48 hours before our trip)? Good luck and have fun on your trip.

WE HAVE HER PASSPORT!!

We both would like to thank everyone who replied to this thread, your information was invaluable.

We got to the office 1/2 hour after it opened (traffic was horrible getting to the metro station). We got in a line (really no direction on where to go) and waited for about 45 minutes. We finally decided to re-explain to the guy who was semi-directing everyone where to go what our problem was. After he realized that we just needed to correct a misspelling on a valid passport he was happy to go to the back room and send the passport to get remade. He came back with slip and a time for us to come back and get it. We came back at the designated time, had to wait in line for 2 hours, but finally got her passport with the correct name (we rechecked it about 5 times before leaving).

Now some thoughts on the whole process. Remember this is the government, the employees move at their own pace. Most are helpful, but you can imagine how you would be after listening to a thousand (yes a thousand) people throughout the day. At anyone time I can guarantee there were 300 people there in various stages of applying, renewing, or fixing passport issues (think tom hanks in "The Terminal" when he is applying for a VISA). The process was not the employees fault that it took so long.

So, it IS possible to get your passport in one day. Luckily we didn't have to pay any extra because it was their mistake we were there. However, if you are renewing or applying and need it the same day it will cost an additional $60. There was a girl in line with us who was leaving for Germany in 6hours and she was getting hers today.

Thanks again!! We leave in 24hours for 12 days in ITALIA!!!!
