Cstars,

Paris to Lourdes is almost 8 hours each way by car! So, no one day tours I would guess.

There is an airport near Lourdes, in Tarbes -- you could fly from Paris. But, you would certainly want to do an overnight trip, as the evening procession is something not to miss and does not start until around 8pm or 9pm, if I recall.

John H.

You can get there by train, also, it is a TGV part of the way. I think that takes about 6 hours one way, not sure.

The TGV is 5 hours, the regular train is eight hours. There is an overnight train also that is around 9 hours. I would recommend taking the earliest TGV and spending the night. Then leaving by TGV around 5:00 in the afternoon.

Make reservations for both trips before hand; this can be done in Paris normally on the day you wish to leave. January is not so busy. However, make sure to make both reservations. When we went it was not busy and we decided to wait until the day before we wanted to leave Lourdes to make our reservations for return to Paris. We could not leave by TGV and ended up needing to take the slow train one day later than we wished to leave.

Also, the hotels are within walking distance to the train station in Lourdes. We stayed at the Ibis for about $45 USD per night with breakfast last January.
