Help! Overseas shipping
Please help. My boss is going to Scotland for a vacation soon. He asked me to ship his golf clubs & clothes ahead of time, to be there when he arrives.

I was told by someone else it is very complicated with customs and the forms (for FedEx). Does anybody know a simple way to do this? Or the right company to choose? Shipping from Los Angeles. Thank you.
Well, first, I'm mad at your boss. But I'm wondering who told you this--was it FedEx? I would call around to find the most expensive way of performing a personal errand on company time and do that. Seem to recall years ago that DHL was faster but more expensive than FedEx, but I'm kind of our of the loop at this point (so I probably shouldn't even be answering, but there you are).

Connie:

I never got any further than asking the price, so can't speak to the difficulty, but shipping golf clubs & clothes will be VERY expensive. Two months ago, I called FedEx to ask about shipping a few items from Paris back to the States (Texas). They told me a 2 pound box would cost approx. $100. (2 day delivery). You should check out a few of the majors (FedEX, DHL, maybe UPS ?), but it'll be a hefty price tag.
Thanks for your replies. & please don't be mad at my boss. He's a great guy, a joy to work for (honest! and I love my job)), re the personal task -- it's his company (and I don't mind a bit, I can use a little break while he's gone in another time zone) I just need to make sure his stuff gets there without problem. Expense is not a problem. Just too much paperwork and not arriving on time.
Thanks again, just wondered if anyone else has done this and who they used.
What about a courier service? Your boss's stuff goes as checked baggage with a courier (probably very expensive, but it's an alternative) who takes it through customs. No paperwork...the courier service does whatever they do to meet the requirements.

I second elvira's advice and add: you should be the courier.

Thank you. I love that idea the best! Could really use a vacation even if I carried the clubs myself!

Hey! This was MY idea!! *I* should courier those &%$#^! golf clubs to Scotland! Why didn't I think of that?
Connie,
2 years ago I shipped a very heavy box (about 80 lbs) to London. I went through the US Postal Service. They were very helpful and courteous. They had what I considered a comparable price.
Kittie
