Help! Opera tickets and information in English.

Hello -
My husband and I will be traveling for our first time to Italy this September and would like to see an Opera. Does anyone have any sites they can recommend so that we can view what is playing and make a purchase? I only found one site and it was all in Italain, my phrase book did not help us too much.. We are open to many locations to view an Opera although Milan is pref'd for La Scala.

Please help!

Lisa

Hello, Lisa
The most comprehensive Opera website I have found, Lisa, is www.operabase.com
It will list opera houses all over the world, as well as the production that features your favorite performer.
Operanews is another periodical that I enjoy. You may wish to pick one up at your nearest B&N.
Have a wonderful trip and enjoy!

Lisa,
I was just looking at on older edition of OperaNews a couple of days ago. It is the July, '99 edition. Featured as the cover story is La Scala! There are many lovely pictures in this piece. Perhaps you can order a back issue.
Have fun! We are leaving for Italy in just 7 months and 2 weeks!!! Can't wait!

Sorry to disappoint you about LaScala, but its short opera season doesn't begin until December 7. Then, after a short season will close down December 31 for at least two-plus years for major renovations.
Do a search under Italian Opera Houses and you'll find some websites to check.

Go to VERONA!!! The summer season starts this month with La Traviata and may continue through September. Imagine being in the ancient Roman amphitheatre viewing all the candles lit at the beginning of the opera for everyone to read their librettos. The acoustics aren't as good, but the atmosphere is unbeatable. Write me for more specifics or do a search on opera and Verona, and the ticket office should come up. you order them ahead, and they hold them for pick-up at the ticket window until show-time. Verona is a lovely city, and it's fun to come out afterwards in the piazza surrounding the amphitheatre and join in the late night cocktails or gelato at the many cafes'. P.S. If you buy a cheaper seat on the stone steps, definitely rent a pillow from the vendor!

Thanks Carol! I will check out that site.. (and may end up emailing you on the side). I had planned to hit Verona on my way from Venice to Milan so that just may work out..

Thanks again!
