I'm afraid the promised trip report won't be posted until the end of August. We leave tomorrow for a 35 day North Atlantic cruise..

2 questions:
1) how do you make reservations for Font de Gaume.
2) where are you staying in St Cirq?

CRAZY4TRAVEL Oct 6th, 2007 07:43 PM

We emailed to make our reservation for Font de Gaume. This is the email address:

Bernadette SEIXAS <[email protected]>

We asked for a tour in English and were under the impression that we were confirmed for an English tour. Just before our 11am tour started, the tour guide asked where we were all from. We were all English speaking except two people. The tour guide stated that the tour would be in french as it was not an English speaking tour. The guide said the English tour was at 10am but I got the distinct impression that it was at the guides discretion.

We still very much enjoyed our tour even though we really didn't understand the commentary.

Am researching upcoming trip passing through Auvergne- Puy de Dome area from Paris. Bourges is a stop off option as well, so was interested to hear back from anyone, including travelbug, on how things turned out.

I am currently trying to decide whether to spend afternoon & overnight in Bourges (I'm a Cathedral/Architecture fanatic) on a Saturday or continue on to St. Nectaire/Issoire area (beautiful setting w/some architecture) on the way down towards Pézénas. Sunday would pretty much be a travel day to get to our our gîte, with short sight seeing stops along the way.

klondike,

If interested in architecture, you might want to compare the cathédrale de Jean Linard with the one in Bourges.

Klondike - You might consider going down through Auxerre - wonderful restaurants, hotel and tremendous cathedral. You can visit the crypts under the cathedral. There is also an abbey worth touring. (I think I have that right without checking my notes)

Failing that Clermont-Ferrand has a beautiful cathedral, great hotel and Michelin resto or special note (Le Radio). It is a place we will revisit.
