Help on finding a B&B in Dublin
 

I and my husband are staying in Dublin on 15 July for two nights.
Any suggestions on a budget B&B (about 50 euros per room per night) what area to stay in and what means of transport to use while in the city? Also what about hop on and off tours?

You won't get anything for 50 for 2 people per bight excepts a didgy place or a hostel.

Pardon that is meant to be night! Can you up your price a bit. remember this is also the high season.

Maybe we can go up to 70euros.
Will we find sth decent?

There are a bunch of B&B's very close to BusAras (Dublin main bus station). I can't remember the name of the street (Gardiner??); I do remember the B&B's being next to one another (like College Rd. in Galway). The going rate last year was 35 Euro PPS (some a bit higher).

I find that 'PPS' pricing a ripoff. It makes some B&B's more expensive to stay than many hotels. 'But you get to meet such nice people ... ' I would be nice too if I was getting into your pockets for that much money!

You may get something on Gardiner St but remember you get what you pay for. They can be a bit crummy. Alternatively you could get a private room in a hostel.

Generally B&Bs in Ireland run E30-40 pppn and in Dublin they will usually be more. There are a few that are less and a few that are more. Consider staying out of town and taking the bus or DART in.

The Hop on Hop off tours are open top buses with a driver/narrator that tells you of the history and sights in Dublin. They are a pretty good idea and give you an idea of what you would like to see. You buy a one day pass (about E12) and have 24 hours to take advantage. They run from about 10:00-18:30.

Overall for touring stay closer to the city. I did see a decent looking place on Gardiner street yesterday. It's called Carrolls (They own a chain of souvenir shops) the sign outside said rooms from 50 euro and it looks like a renovated older building and clean. If you must stay on Gardiner street and stay closer to the Abbey street ends and farther from the Mountjoy Sq End.

If you stay outside the city you will commute longer in to town and it mat bot save you that much money. Also a few people have stayed at the Mercer Hotel near st stephens green. They have 2 sections one I believe is cheaper than the other i.e. more basic dorm style. Maybe someone who has stayed here could give more info on this.

I decided for my October trip that I wanted to stay city center in Dublin but was not happy with the higher costs of mid scale hotels that seemed to be described as blah. SO, since I like to try a bit of everything (DH just goes along for the ride-LOL) and have never done a Hostel- what the heck, we'll just pretend we're 18 again!

near St. Stephen's Green, private DBL en-suite for €64 weekday & €74 weekend for the ROOM includes tax. This won't be until October but for ratings you can check out hostelworld.com.

A word to the wise, hostelworld may not list a dbl,en-suite as available at any hostel but if you can email or call direct you may get it. Apparently, hostelworld just doesn't list them.

Have you considered staying in Dun Laoghaire which is 25 by Dart train south of Dublin.It is a quitetown along the coast.We paid 66 e per night for a nice room with great breakfast and only a block from the Dart station and the water.If you have a car parking is free.Double Decker bus to the airport is cheap and a great ride.have a nice trip jack

Just be careful of the DART line - they're doing work at weekends on the Southside line (which includes Dun Laoghaire). It's operating fine during the week but not at weekends. Check www.dart.ie for more info.

Drumcondra? is it very far from the centre?

It's a bus ride to the centre but not too far. Its set in a more reisdential city neighborhood. It goes through a busy urban area on the bus. It looks like a basic B&B so don't expect any frills.
