Help needed with Venice Hotels
 

I have been reading, this board, trip advisor and looking at Venere now ALL DAY and am compltely overwhelmed!!

My parents have asked me to sort out a trip to Venice for them and I have the flights sorted, but now need a hotel - 1-4 August, spending about 150 Euros per night for the room.

Can anyone help here. They do like their creature comforts, but would also like something quite charming and typically venentian.

Check out Hotel Giorgione. We just got back and it was fabulous! Off the beaten path a bit but still within walking distance of everything. When I go back, I won't stay anywhere else.

Also check out Hotel Galleria...do a search above and you will find a ton of posts about it...we stayed there, in a room with a view of Accademia Bridge in May for 95 Euro...a view of the canal is available for a bit more...they do have a website and email although I cant remember it off hand. Great location!

Another vote for the Giorgione - it was wonderful! More like $180 a night, but I don't find that to be a bad price in Venice! I would also stay there before looking anywhere else if (when!) I go back.

Pensione La Calcina fits what you describe. I've stayed there twice & it is lovely! Located on the Guidecca canal very near the Zattere vaporetto stop.

Close to that price range, but maybe you wouldn't get a canal view room, which is fine. Also it is quite popular so I'm not sure about an August reservation, but I'd give it a try. I've always dealt with the hotel directly (not a reservation service).

try looking on www.venere.com - we stayed at Citta di Milano (2 star, great location for 140 Euro)and Centauro (3 star for 120 Euro, great location and breakfast in room over small cnanal) ... no elevators in either, though

Try hotel "Agli Alboretti" close to the Accademia Bridge, totally refurbished during last winter, or Hotel Belle Arti ,opposite, with breakfast in the garden, rather quiet.

Dick--nice location. Not too far from a pleasant place to eat: Pizzeria Alle Oche. Calle de Tentor 1552-B (campo San Giocomo dell'Orio) Many kinds of excellent pizza, and other dishes as well.

SallyKate, I think you've gotten good suggestions (although posts here have complained about the size of some rooms at the Galleria as well as potential for noise since it's so near the restaurant below, the bridge & the vaparetto stop). I would add checking the Hotel Ala on the Grand Canal. Just make sure wherever you choose has A/C! And I've heard mosquitoes can be a problem then. Have them take repellent.

We too stayed at the Giorgione in Venice. It was in a good location and a very charming hotel. I think we paid $184 a night. Great breakfast in the morning.

I will say that it was the smallest room on our trip (of 3 other hotels.) Pretty much only room for a bed, and two people really could not be in the bathroom at the same time. And the shower was tiny tiny. I am only 5'4" 110 lbs and I felt like I could barely turn around in it ... I don't know how my husband did it.

Having said all that, I've often heard that most of the rooms in Venice are quite small, especially in that price range. We were looking for something in the $225 range but our next option after the Giorgione was $279 a night and it didn't seem worth the extra $$$. Maybe we would have had a bigger room if we had gone with that one.

So for the price, the Giorgione is a great deal ... I suppose I would stay there again.
