What do you think about visit of Visby on Gotland Island from Stockholm during Christmas-New Year time? We are going to stay with family in Stockholm for 9 days.

hope_t: The historical weather patterns for Visby show average highs for December and January to be 36 and 33 degrees "F" and the lows to be 29 and 26 degrees. Both months have historical precipitation averages of two days for each month. Wind chill factors will bring those temperatures even lower.
I love Visby. It is one of the most desireable stops in Scandinavia. Most of what we did was outdoors, walking the walls, the narrow lanes, the harbor, etc. There are some museums and medieval buildings to visit which would be indoors. Biking the Island was a highlight.
You have to determine whether you could handle these activities in those temperatures. I wouldn't go to Visby to hang out in a hotel room. Good luck.

Thank you,
We are Ok with the cold weather and like the winter (the trick is to dress appropriately).
We weren?t sure if it is forth it to go during cold season.
Any other places we should go?

We were only in Stockholm for a day, and I am not a "museum guy", but I fould the museum with the old ship recovered from the harbor (was it the Vasa?) absolutely fascinating. I might not have the name correct, but it is high on the list of things to see, so someone will know which museum you are asking about.

I agree that the Vasa Museum is amazing. the excellent Nordic Museum is right next door, if you need another inside thing to do.
