Help needed with hotels in Toledo

We are looking for a moderately priced hotel/hostal in Toledo for 1 night in early July. We were hoping to book into Hotel Santo Tome (read a thread here a few weeks back) have emailed hotel directly about 10 days ago but have not received a reply. According to hotelsearch.com the hotel is fully booked for the date we require. Would appreciate other recommendations please, we will have a car so carpark or garage is a must. Thanks in advance.

Try Pintor El Greco !

Have looked at Pinto el Greco, not trying to be picky but our NZ dollar is a laugh against every other currency in the world!!! We are trying to keep our costs below 100 euros a night for 2. We do not need plush, just clean room and ensuite. Any more suggestions anyone.

if money is a primary consideration, you are traveling at peak price tome in europe. Pintor el greco drops to 90 euros off season. you will have a major problem in Toledo with a car to park but there is on street parking at Pintor because it is not downtown. It is not plush-just comfortahble. have you tried searching the Lonely Planet site which is geared more to cheap lodegings?

Hi Patricia,
Try the Hotel Santa Isabel, which is located in the historical section. http://www.santa-isabel.com/ We stayed there last April and were quite pleased. As I recall, a double was around 50 Euros per night then. They were adding on to the hotel at that time, so should have the new rooms finished by now. And they do have a garage.
They answered our email promptly, too.
Have fun!
Carol

Thanks for the replies, Hotel Santa Isabel looks a possibility. We will be travelling from Cuenca where we are booked into Posada de San Jose via Belmonte, Consuegra etc. (tilting at windmills!!) to Segovia where we are booked into Hotel Infanta Isabel for 2 nights. Need a nights stop on the way and Toledo seemed the place but as we will arrive late in the day, is it worth it or should we find another overnight stop, ideas please.

Patricia,
Our two staples for good value and charm in Toledo are the Pintor El Greco and the Hostal del Cardenal. Have you tried the latter? www.hostaldelcardenal.com
It's also a Karen Brown favorite, as is the Infanta Isabel in Segovia.
Doubles start at 97 euros. It's unique., charming and very restful.

It's in Spanish, but you can verify room prices for the Santa Isabel here... ($31 single, $46 double)

http://interhotel.com/spain/es/hoteles/4372.html

I think June/July is probably the very busy time, but does anyone think getting 'budget' priced hotels would be difficult in Spain/Portugal/France without reservations in the first half of May? I'd rather not book in advance as my schedule will not be set in stone when travelling...

Still undecided about this one night stop in Toledo based on the short time we will have available. Can anyone recommend a pleasant stop for this 1 night before Segovia.

I can't say enough good things about Hostal del Cardenal in Toledo. It's built right into the city wall and you can walk to the cathedral and old city. The hotel itself is charming, the garden is beautiful, as are the views, and it's very reasonably priced. Also, there's a good restaurant on the grounds. I thought Toledo was charming. Whatever you decide, I'm sure you'll have a great trip--Spain is wonderful!

If you haven't tried a followup e-mail to the San Tome, you might do so; it's possible there was some sort of technical problem and they didn't get your first one. July is also a long way off, and it's possible they aren't booking for then yet?

This website has links to most of the hotels/hostals in Toledo (including all those mentioned on this thread)http://www.aplinet.com/toledoguia/

Thankyou all for your help. We did persevere and sent another email to Hotel Santo Tome, received a very nice reply and we have our booking, 48 euros for a double inc. taxes. very reasonable.
