Help needed for the following:
We have sorted out our accommodation in Istanbul, and from there we will fly to Kayseri. We intend to hire a car; we were wondering if Avis had a depot at the airport?
If there isn't an Avis depot at Kayseri, where would the nearest depot be? If we arrange and pay for the hire in New Zealand, using Avis, the rates are $40 - $50US, per day, depending on the length of hire. Is this a good rate?
We have narrowed the accommodation, in Cappadocia, to two possibilities, the Gamirasu Hotel or the Esbelli Evi Pansiyon.
From Urgup we then plan to drive to a town located in the Western Mediterranean, most probably Kas or Kalkan. It is obvious that we will have to break the journey with one or maybe two stops. We would like to spend some time in Konya; is it feasible to make this city the first stop? What are the 'must sees' in this city? Any recommendations for accomodation, in the budget to moderate range.
Would it be advisable to have another over-night stop before we hit Kalkan?

Any and all help will be most appreciated.
Richard.
Richard - you have VERY specific questions and a very "non-specific" title.S everal fodorites post good info about Turkey - but they need to know that is what you are asking about. Most people will only open threads that they have interest in / knowledge of.

So you will have better luck if you start a new thread with a title something like "need info about rental cars at Kayseri, accomodations, and other Turkey questions"

Dear RichardBloomfield,

In KONYA you will see the MEVLEVIHANE (Mevlana Museum) Ince Minare, Karatay Museum are other place in KONYA. There is one more little bit out side of Konya, that is CATALHOYUK if you have a car you can drive there then continue drive to Antalya. If you don't have a map of that area I scanned for you just copy and paste the url below.
http://www.traveltoturkiye.com/map/catalhoyuk.html

Have a nice trip in Turkey

Sinan Akdeniz
[email protected]

My wife and I were in Kayseri in September. We rented from Hertz, at the airport, and toured Cappadocia. We returned the car in Urgup and took the hotel shuttle back to Kayseri. We stayed at Elkep Evi (they have a website) and it was wonderful. As for the Gamirasu, the location is magical, but there is absolutely nothing in that village besides the hotel - no store, no restaurant, nothing.

Back to the car: there are no retal lots at the airport. Cars are brought there to meet your flight.

Cheers,
Neil
