Help! Need your opinion on Capri and Positano and length of stay....

Hello Folks!

Going to Italy for my honeymoon and very much looking forward to it! My fiance and I are going to Rome for a few days. After Rome we are going down to Capri. Right now we will probably get to Capri in the early afternoon. I have made reservations at a B&B in Anacapri (Monte Solaro). Right now I have us only staying two nights. So we'll have 1.5 days in Capri. Our next stop is Positano where we plan to stay there for 4 days. So here's where I need you opinion:

Do we stay in Capri for the 2 nights and then head to Positano for 4 nights. Or, should we stay in Capri for 3 nights and then go to Positano and only stay there for 3 nights (as opposed to four)?

I guess I'm trying to figure out if 2 nights in Capri is enough or does it make sense to add one more day to Capri, but lose a day in Positano.

Thanks very your opinion.

That's a lot of travel for a short period of time. If you are staying only two nights on Capri, I suggest you stay in Capri town versus Anacapri. You will have only a taste of the island when travel time is built in. Four nights in Positano sounds lovely. If you must, split the two and spend three nights at each. Personally, I would have been happy with a week at each destination.

If you are interested, you may read my trip report from last May at http://www.fodors.com/community/euro...i-and-rome.cfm

I was not on my honeymoon -- I was traveling with three other women. Take that into consideration as our trip was quite different from yours.

Congratulations and have a wonderful time.

That depends on what you want to see and experience and your preferred pace of travel. You can see most of the highlights in a single busy day. If you want to take some of the hikes, plan on an extra day. Enjoy!

If it was me, I'd spend one on Capri and 5 in Positano! There have been lots of threads on here on this topic and some of us feel that Capri is a day trip, other want to stay forever!

Positano is much more interesting (IMHO) and is a great base for the Amalfi coast.

I'd go for 3 and 3 but I have never actually stayed in Positano. I have stayed on Capri several times and to me there is plenty to do (in a low key sort of way!) for 2 or 3 full days. For example - an around the island boat ride including the Blue Grotto, then one day exploring Anacapri and riding the little chair lift, and a third day around Capri town and hiking out to the old roman villa at that tip of the island. A day hanging out at one of the beach clubs could be nice too. I think a day trip to Capri can certainly be pleasant but if you are going to drag your bags and settle in, esp. up in Anacapri, I'd stay at least 3 nights.

That's a hard choice. We went to Rome, Capri and Positano for our 10th anniversary last may. We stayed at the Hotel Weber Ambassador in Capri town and they have a shuttle to take you to restaurants. It has a beautiful view. If your goal is to relax, do some hiking you could definitely do three nights. But if you want to limit what you see, then Positano for four nights is really great. If you have a car, you can tour Amalfi coast. It's relaxing on the beach in Positano, you can hike, go exploring the little shops in the town and checking out the restaurants. We went to a few that we really loved. So, all that said, I would probably vote for the 2 and 4 given the time limit and how much I love Positano.

If you like to hike, I would add a day to Capri. We did some incredible hiking, and really enjoyed ourselves. We hiked to Tiberius' villa, around Anacapri, and various other places. Here's a good website:

I honestly don't see Positano as an "interesting" town. I had a great time there, but it didn't have the variety of attractions that we found on Capri, where there is a lot of history, many great villas, the hiking, and shops if you are interested. Great gardens, too.

Positano: It was romantic. We had a very nice room and took a short trip to Amalfi. My goal was to go to Ravello, but I got very motion sick on the bus to Amalfi, so we walked a bit, and took a boat back. I strongly urge boat travel on the Amalfi coast.

If it was my trip/honeymoon I would stay three nights on Capri, Atlanta_Dude, but I always find it so difficult to answer a question "what should we do" as we all have such different interest and taste. Anyway, three nights would give you two full days on Capri/Anacapri of course so that would be my personal choice. Wishes for a long, joyful and loving marriage and for a wonderful honeymoon. Whatever you decide you can't go wrong as you will be in a beautiful area.
