HELP! Need your advice about GEORGES restaurant in PARIS!!

Hi Gang,

I am planning a special June dinner at GEORGES (top of Pompidou Centre).

I know, I know...the service is bad. But for one night, I will tolerate that for the KILLER VIEW and interesting decor.

My question is simply: Do you think it is better to reserve a table outside on the terrace, or is it better to sit an indoor table right next to the window.

The reason I ask is because I figured with an indoor table by the window, we can enjoy the music, decor and the view; whereas outside is ony about the view.

Really would appreciate your opinion for those who have been there.

Thanks a million!

We ate lunch in the restaurant 2 years ago and found the food so-so. The service, however, was fine and the view superb. Be sure to wear black and smoke incessantly.

If I was going for dinner I'd probably sit inside for the reasons you mention and I'd try to time my reservation for dusk so we could enjoy the view and then see the sky turn pink and purple over the rooftops. Have you thought about going for drinks only (not sure if you can do this inside for dinner) and then head somewhere better for dinner?

Have a wonderful time and be sure to visit the museum's excellent collection, especially its Kandinskys.

Hi Beatchick, I seem to be on an anti-smoking rave tonight between this thread and coco's. No offense to your Beat friends! MVOR

Thanks, mvor!

Yes, that good ole second-hand smoke may just inspire me to sit outside.

But then again, those pod stations inside Georges are so cool-looking!

I guess I can endure the smoke, mediocre food AND bad service for one night! Gee whiz...what I do for a great Paris view...

Hi Betty, sunset is probably closer to 10:00pm (check sunrisesunset.com). The food wasn't that bad, just unremarkable. The people watching on the other hand-oh, la, la. I hope you have a fabulous time; I've enjoyed reading all of your posts. I'm counting the days 'til our July trip...

Thanks, mvor!

If you ever need advice on NYC, let me know. Also, I wrote a trip report on Sicily (May 2004) if you ever decide to go there.

We sat inside......the better to see the beautiful people...and the room is great.
Actually the food was fine....not memorable, but certainly good.
The view after dark was spectacular when the Eiffel Tower lights went on.
