Hi there

My spouse and I will travel abroad this October to attend a 3 day work conference in Switzerland and a 3 hour business meeting in Bolzano, Italy.

We are from Cape Town and the only travelling we've down outside of South Africa was last year to Zanzibar for 2 weeks, hence the limited experience of travelling abroad. We are travelling on budget and are obviously looking at the most cost effective way of travelling in Italy specifically.

Below is a breakdown of questions that we need some guidance on please;

We're arriving at Malpenza Airport @ 20h45 from Cape Town via Dubai and would need to get to our accommodation the Berlino Hotel. Which mode of transport is cost effective and how do we get to it after collecting our luggage? If the metro trains or bus services is your preferred advise, which station should we get on and off to navigate our way to The Berlino Hotel. Could we get public transport from this Hotel and where do we get on?

Immediately the following morning we have a 2 hour meeting in Bolzano and have no idea how to travel there from the Hotel we staying at and which train or bus services to use? What type of cost effective public transportation should we take?

Thanks

M

(No, I am not from Italy but have friends who live there. I have traveled to Italy often to visit them and to see new places.)

I would skip Naples and visit some other cities/villages in Tuscany as day trips from Florence.

I would be traveling on similar dates , similar destinations and would be flying into rome and flying out of venice. I looked around for options to reach venice airport early morning.Cheapest way is vapretto and then take the land bus. Say a 7 am flight would mean reach airport by say 6- 6:10 am which would mean you need to take the 5 am bus, which means you need to start somewhere around 4:30 am from hotel or earlier. Also on sunday frequency is less for both vapretto and bus as in our case.

I have also added sorrento in my iterniary, even though there were many opinions of not doing it, but that is more of a personal opinion as to what you want out of your visit. You can fly into rome and head directly to naples and then do visit rome , then florence and finally venice and fly out of venice.
If you plan to stay in villa in tuscany then skip naples and spend more time in tuscany/florence, this is now a personal choice.

mpardenw - You need to start your own thread and provide a link for your hotel in Milan. The express bus from Malpensa is usually the best transport into Milan (about 1 hour), but would depend on your hotel location.
