HELP! Need advice driving from PARIS to Mont St. Michel

Hi Fodors Family,

This June, I may be drving from Paris to Mont St. Michel and I wanted to know the following:

1) How long a drive can I expect for the first week of June? 2 hours or more?

2) How crowded is that area the first week of June? Is it really congested?

3) Is the drive there scenic?

4) WHERE SHOULD I EAT? I LOVE OYSTERS. Any recommendations for places nearby?

Thanks a million,
Betty

Cancale, on the western edge of the bay where Mont St. Michel is located, is known for its oysters.

Mont St. Michel will be crowded in June, but not like summer time.

The drive is not particularly scenic, especially if you use the autoroute; I drove from Honfleur to the Mont St. Michel.

Thanks, Michael! Any approximate estimate of driving time from Paris to MSM?

For this and any driving trip in France (or anywhere in Europe), you owe it to yourself to become familiar with www.viamichelin.com or www.mappy.com or both - - and I assume that you have never heard of either before.

Viamichelin says 4 hrs to make the 399 km trip, 349 on "motorways" (autoroutes). I found that we needed longer than viamichelin estimated om our September 2002 trip to Normandy and Brittany. I often can make BETTER time than they estimate, but not on this trip.

Best wishes,

Rex

Have you considered the possibility of taking a fast TGV to a city which is closer and driving from there to MSM? A lot of people have talked about doing this.

Thanks a lot, Rex and Intrepid! I have no idea why my sister-in-law thought we could drive there in 2 hours from Paris. I knew that sounded really suspicious! (I doubt she can drive that fast!)

I'll let her know about the TGV.

Cheers to all!
