Help! Need a Venice Hotel Recomendation
I would love some response on your picks for a Venice hotel. Six are travelling next month and our top picks (Hotel Columbina & Hotel Campiello) don't have rooms available. Would prefer San Marco area $$-$$$
|
Check Best Western. Although it has been a few years ago, we stayed at one that was very nice (& fits your budget) right out the back of San Marco Square & just over a footbridge.

Are you staying at least three nights? If so, you might want to consider a apartment instead of a hotel. Lots more fun and usually cheaper, although you can spend lots more if you want. Truly gives you the feeling of living there instead of just visiting.
We used these folks least year and there a many others as well. www.veniceapartments.org |
The Hotel Flora is quoting me 500 E for 2 nights in October - that seems high to me? What do you think? It is for a double room.
|
Is that 500E per night?? If so, that's high. If it's 250E per night, that would probably be about right albeit still a bit high IMO.
I love the old fashioned charm and location of the Flora. You might also check Hotel Bisanzio. It's quite pleasant, in a quiet but fairly convenient location and might be a bit less money. |
Sorry it is 250 E a night. It is too high for myself and dd - we are going to be in Europe for 5 weeks plus and I will break the bank at that rate..look for something a little closer to 100 E to 150 E top a night - I know Venice is a little more pricey...

Hi Mom,
We stayed in the Holiday Flat of Al Campaniel 2 years ago and we really enjoyed the apartment and the location. Here is the website: http://alcampaniel.tripod.com/holidayflat/ The apartment is very basic but clean and spacious. It was 90 Euro per night for the 3 of us. Have a great time in Venice! |
For MomDD's budget, I can recommend Hotel Mercurio 2* in San Marco area, somewhat not far from Flora, espacially close to La Fenice. A nice hotel in its category. Monica at the reception (owner?), was cheerful and pleasant. No elevator.
http://www.hotelmercurio.com/en/index.htm Its site says €170/double room for October. They usullay give 10 % discount if you pay cash. FYI, October in Venice is still high season and with your budget it would be hard to get a 3* hotel. To get a realistic idea, check a booking site such as venere.com. |
I was hoping it was not high season. Darn.
I appreciate both recommendations and will most likely end up spending more then I want in Venice but will make up for it hopefully in other areas... Our apartment for 3 weeks in southern Italy is very inexpensive so it helps. Thanks again. Suz hope you do not mind the question on your thread. Best, Dawn |
Good luck, MomDD. I guess OP doesn't mind sice she could well be already back from Venice.

MomDDTravel, the hotel I stayed at in Venice was La Forcola, a charming 3* hotel. I checked its price on hotelclub.net for your dates, and it is 135 Euros including breakfast for a twin room. I thought the location was very nice, there are marble staircases, the staff were friendly. The only bad thing I can say is that the bathroom is a bit eccentric (although quite functional), although I know some of the bathrooms are conventional. Read the reviews and see what you think.
If I were going to Venice again, though, I might try this convent option: http://www.slowtrav.com/italy/hotels...amp;s=castello |
DH and I stayed at Best Western Monte Carlo for part of our honeymoon tour. This hotel is literally around the corner from San Marco square.
http://www.bestwestern.it/BW/EN/98157_hotel_Venice It was affordable, very clean, had a convenient location and had a good breakfast. It may be a chain hotel, but hey! You're in Venice - all you really need is a safe, clean place to sleep! ;-) |
willt and weheartravel thank you - I will be looking into them both. I already heard back from a few places and they are booked.

Consider extending your stay in Venice by one night to three nights. That would open up most apartment rentals. Here are couple of agencies: www.veniceapartments.org www.viewsonvenice.com |
I just got back from a 2 week trip to Italy and I stayed 5 nights at the Ca San Giorgio in Venice and it was wonderful - next to a traghetto stop and near the vaparetto stop. The view of the Grand Canal was just to the left of my balcony. The service was remarkable and I will go there again on my next stay. It was 120 euro a night and great deal.

Another vote for Hotel Flora--request a large room.
|
An option...Ca Angeli is a very, very nice B&B overlooking the Grand Canal.
Reasonably priced. http://www.caangeli.it/ |
This small, friendly hotel is tucked behind the Danielli Hotel in a little campo. The owners also have a B&B annex nearby which is very comfortable. It's so handy for San Marco but you feel like you are far from the crowds:
