Help me select a Paris hotel...pleeeze!
 

Have done my research. <BR>The following hotels are my 'finalists" in Paris. <BR>If you have stayed at any of these, I would greatly appreciate hearing any comments you may have: <BR>Merci! <BR>Au manoir St. Germaine des pres* First choice, currently <BR>Hotel de Jeu de palme <BR>Beau Manoir <BR>Millesime <BR>Relais St. Sulpice

Stayed at the Beau Manoir June '00. Good value for the money, and a great location and nice buffet breakfast downstairs in the morning. My only complaints were: no washcloths and the toilet was in a small closet and the shower/bath/bidet was in a nice room. The "toilet room" was so small, my knees almost hit the door when shut - not good for someone taller than 5'8". Try to stay at the Hotel Galileo in the 8th arr. Excellent value for the money - and sells out often. Good luck!

Pam, <BR>We were very happy with Au Manoir Saint Germain des Pres. We paid about 1500FF/night for a deluxe room. It had nice decor, average size for Paris, and a large spotless bathroom w/ jacuzzi tub. The location was perfect for our needs; right above Brasserie Lipp, across the street from Les Deux Magots, 1 block to metro, 20 feet to taxi stand, near lots of cafes, restaurants, shopping, etc. 10-15 minute walk to Isle de la Cite (central Paris). <BR>E-mail for other specifics. <BR>Have a great trip, <BR>j.

Aside from the issue of which hotels are worth considering is the problem of getting a reservation. On season, a minimum of three to six months lead time is necessary to have a chance of getting the room you're looking for. Many of the posts I've noticed totally overlook this matter. Often, people are spending lots of time narrowing down their lists and then finding, much to their chagrin, that the hotels are fully booked. If you have lots of time to plan, you're OK. If time is short, you may find that all of your research time has been wasted. Of those you mentioned, Au Manoir is probably a good first choice. Millesime may also be worth considering. Relais St. Sulpice is not in the same league. I don't know Beau Manoir or Jeu de Paume, but am sure they're in a different arrondissement. Good luck!

I love Jeu de Paume - but I really like Ile St. Louis. You do need to book WAY WAY WAY in advance to get in, they are often booked up with returning guests. <BR>(and be aware that most French hotels not part of a chain will NOT give you a washcloth - it is considered a personal item and you are expected to bring it with you) <BR>Don't ya love cultural differences? That's why we travel! :-)

I haven't stayed at the Millesime, but at the D' Aubusson, a sister hotel, although 4 stars. The Millesime, I've read, is as nice as the otherone, and Rue Jacob is an excellent address. <BR> <BR>I've hear rave reviews about the Relais St. Sulpice as well, although I also read that the standard rooms are really small, but aren't all the standard rooms at 3 stars hotels the same?

Dear Pam, <BR>There is really no such thing as too far in advance! Sounds silly, but I've booked 9 months ahead of time, and settled for 10th, 12th, 14th choice hotels. <BR>Have a great trip!

Pam, <BR> <BR>Don't worry. July is considered low season, and hotels in Paris often have promotional summer rates. Anyway, for the sake of your peace of mind, book ASAP, so that you can book your favorite hotel and room. <BR> <BR>Surlok

I agree with the others. Book way ahead. As soon as you have your flights booked (a year in advance is doable), contact the hotels. With lots of lead time, you'll get your choices. If not, don't ask.
