Help me save my holiday memories!

My wife and I have had many happy and memorable vacations in Europe and over the years have collected a large number of diary notes, receipts, hotel and restaurant recommendations which are kept in a variety of files and envelopes safely stored away in a drawer. It's often fun to get these documents and notes out and look back over the places we have visited on our travels.
I have recently had the idea of uploading these to a website where I could also include the large number of digital photos I have taken. The idea is that I could show the photos with a detailed narrative and the information could then be accessed by family and friends only. Has anyone any suggestions as to websites that might offer such a service? Any advice and assistance would be gratefully received.

Try blogger.com. You can upload your digitals and add a trip report/notes. There are many photo sites but they don't usually allow full-length text.

blogspot.com is another site.

I've never messed with blogs so don't know if they have restrictions on the amount of space you can use. A lot of high quality photos can take up a lot of space.

But these days you can get webhosting for a real website
that you can do anything with you like including video for very low cost.

Powweb.com offers unlimited space for about 6 bucks a month. So does iweb.ca I
have no connection with either aside from being a satisfied customer.

You might consider the website My photo Album

http://www.myphotoalbum.com

There is a CLUB level for $20.00 per year that gives you unlimited storage. There are lots of options and all you need to do to give people access is give them the URL site address of YOU ALBUM(s)

I have used it for quite some time now.

Mrpotatohead:

Since going digital three years ago, we have been very satisfied with Google's Picasa. I have also scanned many pre-digital pix, and some of the type of documents to which you refer....they can all be inserted into your Picasa albums, also. No cost involved.

I've encountered one problem recently...on "slide show" mode, the album hangs up after 15-20 pix...any Picasa users or others out there know how to cure this?
Thanks.

Stu - I'd email the Picasa folks and ask about this problem. I use shutterfly and have loaded a lot of high res digitals and watched the slide show without problems.

What's your site? I'd love to see your photos. I'm tired of looking at mine! :)

Picasa and Shutterfly are excellent for what you're looking to do.

In the past I have done elaborate scrapbooks that include all kinds of travel mementos but one of these scrapbooks involved 100's of hours and well over $100 to complete.

My husband and I most recently tried making a "photobook" of our last 2 trips. It was a blast putting it together and we scanned memorabilia to include with our photos. You are able to choose page layouts and background "papers" just like you do when you scrapbook. Now we have a hardbound book that easily fits on the shelf and we love it! We used Shutterfly for one book and Picaboo to create the other one. These books can be shared online with friends and family as well.

I've also made photobooks using www.mypublisher.com and love them! You can see my Brittany book from earlier this year at

Mr. P. - I created a domaine on shutterfly that allows text, photos, comments. The text is in a separate box either above or below the photos. I'm not sure how much text you can add here - I've only put in a few paragraphs. For longer text like trip reports I've included a link to my web site.

The photo description you see on the slide show is limited to 120 characters.

Here's an example.
