Help me plan route from ATL to Croatia and Lisbon
 

Want to spend 2 to 3 weeks in Zagreb, Dubronik and Lisbon. Flying Delta which does not have flights to these places so I will need to fly into another city and use local carriers to get to these places.

Could spend a couple of days in flight-destination city but have been to Rome, Barcelona, Paris, Amsterdam so looking for another city to fly into.

Am I making this too difficult and should I just choose one of these cities to repeat?

Any suggestions on best route?

Into Venice(VCE)or Milan(MXP)

train over to Trieste/Zagreb for Croatia

Vienna(VIE) would work well also to fly in and train from.

For such apreadout area cheapest to fly into FRA or LON

then take cheap www.skyscanner.net econo flights

to Dubrovnik and Lisbon from there will usually save.

It would take you at least 3 days of long trains to get

between the 2 have done it no fun better to fly.

I would check flights out of Munich. We few there last fall en route to Sarajevo and there were many people going on to other destinations in Europe. Definitely a nice city for a stop-over.

This is kind of like a European saying they want to visit Boston, New York, and Panama City in one trip. It can be done--but why? Lisbon is way over here and Croatia is way over there. In any case, probably Vienna would be your best bet, especially if you haven't been there. It's a glorious city and well-connected to Croatia by air, train and probably bus. Beware of the low cost airlines--they do a great job and they'll save you a ton of money BUT they have extremely strict baggage limits. If you're not careful you'll spend more on your extra baggage (if you have more than 20 lbs.) than you would have spent on a regular airline ticket.

I agree with deboluccia about this being a kind of off-the-wall combination of places, but I also agree with Vtraveler about going through Munich if you really want to do this.

Munich is a very modern airport, far less crowded than Frankfurt, but I don't know for sure where you are coming from, so it may not have good flights from your origin.

Well, duh, I didn't read your whole headline or I would have known where you were coming from. I got so excited about your destinations that I ignored the origin! My dopey.
