Help me nail down my itinerary
Hi everyone. I would really appreciate your opinions regarding my 2014 fall trip of a lifetime:
September 18 th or so as a start date. LA to Zurich Train to Wengen Day 1 wengen Day 2 wengen Day 3 wengen Day 4 wengen Day 5 train to Paris via Basel or Bern night in paris Day 6 Paris Day 7 Eurostar to London - Oxford rent car and drive to the cotswolds - night in cotswolds Day 8 cotswolds Day 9 cotswolds Day 10 cotswolds Day 11 return car in Oxford and train to London - night in London Day 12 London Day 13 London Day 14 London Day 15 fly home Thanx in advance for your ideas and suggestions. |
A day and a half in Paris suggests Paris isn't that important to you, so skip it. Add the time to Switzerland or the UK
|
Agree, drop Paris and I would add the time to London. You will spend most of the time on logistics rather then enjoying Paris.
|
Paris was added to breakup the long haul from Wengen to London. I have been to Paris before but hubby has not. Is the train ride from Switzerland to Paris a scenic one?
|
Why not just fly basel or Berne to London...no need to break that journey up...
|
I agree with dropping Paris. You only have 2 weeks and to spend 2 days on travel just to have 1 day in Paris simply isn't best use of time.
Train from Wengen to Berne/Zurich, flight to London and still enough tiem to rent the car and drive to the Cotswolds, all in one day is quite feasible. That would be your day 5. You would gain 2 full days either to add to your time in Switzerland (my preference) or to your time in England. Cost wise, flying would probably not be more expensive than the train to Paris and Eurostar to London. |
Thank you for clearing my head.......I will tweak the schedule and just fly to London and rent the car at the airport. I was getting too bogged down with train schedules. Easy jet....is that the way to go?
|
Depends on your luggage...they are sticklers for luggage.
Check Swiss Air as well as BA to compare final prices |
Jamikins, thanks I will check out the airlines you mentioned. I wanted to avoid having to fly if we could take a train instead but I think wengen to paris. Might be a bit long. We did the glacier express some years back and really enjoyed the train ride. I think hubby wants to take the train.
Let's see.....I'm checking out flying vs. the train ride to paris. |
Hi nwheel,
I don't really think it'll be any faster to fly from Wengen to Paris. First, you have to take the train from Wengen to the airport (about 3h), then check in and wait at the airport (90 minutes?). Then you fly (60 minutes?), then collect your bags (20 minutes?), then take a shuttle or the train into Paris (45 minutes). So that's just about seven hours. The train trip is about 6h long, changing trains in Lauterbrunnen, Interlaken, and Basel. s |
Agree take the train to Paris but my suggestion was skip Paris and fly directly to London...
|
Oh, yeah. That I can agree with. Just two nights in Paris will be counterproductive, I think. Too much hassle, not enough Paris.

Thank you all.... Decided... Dropping Paris and taking the extra day in wengen.
