Help me get bumped
Getting Bumped:
I would love to get bumped when I return from europe in August. Does anyone have any hints? Lufthansa/Frankfurt |
Get in line BEHIND me....seriously, when you get to THE GATE you should volunteer to give up your seat...and do this as soon as the gate opens for "business." This does not mean you will be asked not does it mean that if asked you have to comply.....if you are asked that is when you make sure you understand the compensation, if any, that is beuing offered.
It usually does not help to do this at the check-in counter because they often have no idea how many people are going to show up..but the gate will know and it is the people at the gate, NOT at the check-in counter who make the "bumping" decisions. |
With trans-Atlantic flights and some carriers, it makes some sense to inquire about this at the check-in counter, too. (They may even ask you at that point.) The reason is because if they choose to start their volunteer list at check-in, you want to make sure you're on the list. You may not get bumped until the aircraft is ready to close the boarding door.

Hi Jeri,
I also suggest getting there early and volunteering. On one trip they offered us $400 each and hotel accomodations for the night if we would fly home on the same flight the next day. |
We were was asked only once, but unfortunately we could not accept it.It broke my heart, but my daughter had an important business appointment and could not miss it..
So we declined...We could have had a free trip anywhere in the world..Oh well..C'Est la Vie.. |
oops remove" was.".my typing is horrible

You could do what we did- try to fly into Charlotte and Philadelphia at the same time as Hurricane Isabel is flying in there! :) Thanks, Isabel, for our flight back to Ireland this September!

If the lines at the Lufthansa counters at FRA are any indication, you should have NO problem.
M PS Lufthansa coach is, IMHO, the absolute worst! |
