I've been watching this thread but have not participated, until now. I have gotten a few answers, this last one though is a toughie. StCirq, WE Need A Hint, PLEASE! :((
Sorry - just checking in for the first time today.
And here I was thinking this would be a really easy one. Hint? Hmmm....I can't make this TOO easy, so let's start with this: Rose |
StC! I think I got it! Could it be Miller?
It has to be Miller! Good answer., good clue.
Betsy and Wren, I must be awfully obtuse but how does Miller relate to window reader? Explain to the crossword impaired!
I may be out in left field, but here goes...
Window reader, rose Rose window...church Reads the story in the stained glass window.. Priest? |
You got it, Betsy!
Malcolm Miller is a world-rnowned expert on the windows at Chartres. He gives tours twice a day when he's not lecturing around the world in which he "reads the windows." And of course the most famous Chartres window is the rose window. |
St. C, you can e-mail for my address so you'll know where to send the prize! ((x))
I'll do that - I have the PERFECT prize!!
I missed that one......so what's the next word? I've got my little gray cells all revved up!
StCirq, before you added Malcolm, I was drawing a blank on the Miller surname and its connection to "window reader" and Rose. I'm familiar with him but have never heard him described as "reading the windows."
Anyway, good one! |
Oh no, StC. I was just kidding!
I'm just starting to plan a trip to Provence and the Dordogne Valley in May 2004. Your expertise on this board is a more than sufficient prize. |
OK, Rocks...since no one else will bite, I will again.
Building on the "E" in MILLER, an 8-letter word of which E is the 2nd letter. Clue: birds of the Borromean |
The peacocks of Lago Maggiore?
Not sure what the birds are called but aren't their droppings called The Mark of Borro?
You got it, dln!!
Clue: If our Capo proved to be as clever at cooking food as cooking words, this very well could be his signature dish! Using the C of peacocks, served on bread, sweet and sour flavors. Eight letters. (European dish, of course.)
Does it begin with C? If not, where is C in the 8-letter sequence?
Sorry! Yes, it begins with a C.
No bites (no pun intended)? Okay, here are some of the ingredients: peppers and capers.
