I've been watching this thread but have not participated, until now. I have gotten a few answers, this last one though is a toughie. StCirq, WE Need A Hint, PLEASE! :((

StCirq Jul 28th, 2003 06:30 AM

Sorry - just checking in for the first time today.

And here I was thinking this would be a really easy one.

Hint? Hmmm....I can't make this TOO easy, so let's start with this: Rose

Betsy Jul 28th, 2003 07:56 AM

StC! I think I got it! Could it be Miller?

wren Jul 28th, 2003 09:15 AM

It has to be Miller! Good answer., good clue.

dln Jul 28th, 2003 09:40 AM

Betsy and Wren, I must be awfully obtuse but how does Miller relate to window reader? Explain to the crossword impaired!

jnn1964 Jul 28th, 2003 09:53 AM

I may be out in left field, but here goes...
Window reader, rose
Rose window...church
Reads the story in the stained glass window..
Priest?

StCirq Jul 28th, 2003 10:06 AM

You got it, Betsy!

Malcolm Miller is a world-rnowned expert on the windows at Chartres. He gives tours twice a day when he's not lecturing around the world in which he "reads the windows." And of course the most famous Chartres window is the rose window.

Betsy Jul 28th, 2003 10:24 AM

St. C, you can e-mail for my address so you'll know where to send the prize! ((x))

StCirq Jul 28th, 2003 11:28 AM

I'll do that - I have the PERFECT prize!!

BrimhamRocks Jul 28th, 2003 11:40 AM

I missed that one......so what's the next word? I've got my little gray cells all revved up!

capo Jul 28th, 2003 11:47 AM

StCirq, before you added Malcolm, I was drawing a blank on the Miller surname and its connection to "window reader" and Rose. I'm familiar with him but have never heard him described as "reading the windows."

Anyway, good one!

Betsy Jul 28th, 2003 11:54 AM

Oh no, StC. I was just kidding!

I'm just starting to plan a trip to Provence and the Dordogne Valley in May 2004. Your expertise on this board is a more than sufficient prize.

StCirq Jul 28th, 2003 12:21 PM

OK, Rocks...since no one else will bite, I will again.

Building on the "E" in MILLER, an 8-letter word of which E is the 2nd letter. Clue: birds of the Borromean

dln Jul 28th, 2003 12:29 PM

The peacocks of Lago Maggiore?

capo Jul 28th, 2003 12:39 PM

Not sure what the birds are called but aren't their droppings called The Mark of Borro?

StCirq Jul 28th, 2003 12:47 PM

You got it, dln!!

dln Jul 28th, 2003 12:58 PM

Clue: If our Capo proved to be as clever at cooking food as cooking words, this very well could be his signature dish! Using the C of peacocks, served on bread, sweet and sour flavors. Eight letters. (European dish, of course.)

StCirq Jul 28th, 2003 01:00 PM

Does it begin with C? If not, where is C in the 8-letter sequence?

dln Jul 28th, 2003 01:27 PM

Sorry! Yes, it begins with a C.

dln Jul 28th, 2003 03:44 PM

No bites (no pun intended)? Okay, here are some of the ingredients: peppers and capers.
