Help me decide Paris apt, please.
Hi all,
My head is swimming with apartment information for our stay in Paris. I've read through as many posts as possible on this site, and you all are so wonderful at noticing things about the apartments people ask your opinions on, I'm hoping you can help me. We are a family of four - two adults, two kids (one will turn 9 a few days after we leave Paris, the other will be a month shy of 11). We'd like to be able to walk to most of the sights, buy food and make meals in the apt, etc. We'll be there for five days in late September. We have "narrowed" (being a relative term) our search down to the following: 33 Rue d’Assas 11 Rue d'Ormesson 4 Rue des Lyonnais 12 Rue Marie Stuart 16 Rue Villehardouin 11 Rue Lacepede 7 Rue Duvivier Thank you so much for any and all help!!!! Well, just taking a brief look through the addresses, I think your first choice, being as its very near the Luxembourg Gardens, which an especially lovely area, and great for kids to run around in, it's close to everything, near the RER B lines, that will take you to the airport CDG-and other metro lines, there are great little shops and restaurants in the area, so I'd think you'd be quite happy in this location-it is in the lively 6th arr. You could go to Mabillon metro stop, on the St. Germain des Pres, and take the family to Chez Leon-an excellent musssels and frites restaurant, frequented by locals and tourists alike, among many other places to go.

Sorry, I just realized I need to post links or you can't see the apartments! DUH!! I told you my head is swimming....

Thanks for the advice, Girlspytravel!! Our posts crossed, so your didn't get to see the apartments, unfortunately.
Anyone else have any thoughts? I most interested in what people think, based on their experiences in rental apartments, of the actual apartment. Thanks! |
We stayed in that very apartment in Rue Lacepede several years ago. There were two things about it I didn't like: there was no elevator, and we were on the fourth floor, and that gets old very quickly. And there was no air conditioning and it was quite hot in May when we were there. The bedroom windows open onto a courtyard where there's a restaurant next door, and you hear the sounds chopping and food preparation fairly late into the night, so it was noisy. It was clean and pleasant, and the person who manages it was very helpful. I assume your kids will be sleeping on the couch, and I don't know how big or comfortable that would be. I would second the person who suggested the Luxembourg area; I think the kids (and you) might enjoy it more.

Hi there - the Luxembourg one is on one of our short lists - I love the look and location and the facilities - my one hmmm is that is a 4th floor walkup. Another one on our short list (which might be a bit smaller) but is on Isle St. Louis is at www.parisabcd.com (it's also on vrbo, but I don't have the number with me!)

Thanks so much - this is exactly the kind of information I am looking for!!
I looked at the one on the Ile - very nice! - but booked on my dates. :(( Michelle |
The one on rue Assas is big and I like the area very much, but I always think "If they can't make the beds look nice for the advertisement photos, what will be the condition of the place when I arrive?" Maybe you could have them send you other photos?
With the other places, how important or unimportant is just having one couch for the entire family to sit on? |
We stayed in the apartment at 11 rue d'Ormesson last spring. We absolutely loved it. We tried to get it again for our trip in May and it was booked. The location was great! It is in the 4th near the St. Paul metro stop and right across the street from place marche ste. catherine, a pretty little square, hidden away and surrounded by small restaurants and apartment buildings. I would definitely recommend the apartment. The apartment itself had a nice kitchen and bathroom with huge tub/shower that you can soak in. It has a good sized, bright living room with cable tv and a separate bedroom. Vacationinparis was very easy to do business with, all in $ and credit card if you like.

Hope you don't mind, but I'd like to offer up one to consider. I will be staying here in Aug. so I can't give you my personal review yet, but others have given it a "thumbs up".

Thank you, all, so much for the advice.
We ended up going with the apt on Rue des Lyonnais. After the inital emails with the owner of the Rue d'Assas, I never heard anything more from him. The one we chose is also close to the Luxembourg Gardens (just not as close, which so many of your recommended. Opaldog, thanks for your review and to know vacationinparis.com was a good company to work with - they manage the apt we ultimately chose. namaka - thanks for your suggestion. That one looks beautiful, but was a bit too much for our budget. Now on to the rest of our trip (Italy). Thanks again! Michelle |
