Help! Looking for Venice Apartment - Short-term rental for family of 6
We are a family of 6 (4 adults and 2 children - age 4 and 6) and trying to find accommodation for one night each before and after our cruise departing from Venice in July 2010. Given pricing it would seem an apartment is the way to go but most places have a 3 night minimum. Does anyone have any recommendations on convenient and reasonable accommodations given our situation?
I noticed the Hotel American in the Dorsodoro section offers a 2 bedroom apartment (that can accommodate 6) on a nightly basis. Does anyone have any experience with these apartments? Also, we were considering a stay in Lido one night after our cruise - any recommendations on short-term apartments?

I would recommend going to vrbo.com (vacation rentals by owners). It has a large variety of apartments with pictures of the rooms, map of where it is located, etc. We are using vrbo.com to book in several Italian cities this summer.

I rented an apartment for me and my 4 children a few years ago - it had a master bedroom, twin bedroom, room with double sofa bed and a single room. But only one bathroom - not really a problem with one adult and 4 kids!
I rented from...

and found them good to deal with. That particular apartment is no longer on their rental list, but they have several apts sleeping 5-6 and more.
Here's another website that may help...

The following has a two night min. www.pensioneguerrato.it you may wish to see if the "night before and night after" logic counts as two nights. (Peak season - fat chance - but asking costs you exactly the same as this fine advise)
I originally thought of trying that tact but fortuneatly was able to morph our agenda into two nights before. Will you be Cruising on the 7 night Norwegen Gem/ greek Isles cruise? I'm sailing on that 22 May and will offer a very brief trip report upon return.

We are trying to keep costs below 300 Euro per night. I tried VRBO and they generally don't book one night stays.
docdan- yes we are taking the 7 night Norwegian Gem - Adriatic Cruise (stops in Dubrovnik, Athens, Izmir, Nafplion). The Gem is alternating itineraries between Adriatic and Greek Isles. I would be interested in tips and your experience on the cruise after your cruise. Thanks!
