Help: Late Oct Honeymoon Itinerary

We're getting married on Oct. 19 and would love to go to Italy for a two week honeymoon. We're thinking maybe Amalfi Coast (Positano), Tuscany and Venice. Problem is we're concerned with the weather at this time of year, particulary at AC. What are suggestions for itinerary based on this timing? Should we skip AC and do Rome b/c of weather? Or, as I'm beginning to think, do we hold off and do Italy in the summer and just head to the islands for a brief honeymoon? I just don't want to waste a trip to Italy b/c of poor weather! Thanks in advance for your assistance!

Hi M,

Mid to late Oct can be very pleasant or foggy and chilly on the AC.

I'd hedge my bets and choose either:
Rome and the AC or
Venice and Tuscany

>..hold off and do Italy in the summer..<

That's peak of tourist season.

Haven't been to the Amalfi Coast, but mid-late October, would suggest Rome, Tuscany & Venice.

We went to Italy (Rome, Tuscany, Umbria) From 10/22 - 11/04/03 and had great weather.

We took our honeymoon this past October. We landed in Florence on October 23 and left from Rome on November 2. We had exactly 20 minutes of rain the entire time we were there and that was in the morning of November 1. Overall the weather was perfect, warm enough during the day that I needed only a light sweater (but I'm always cold) and only cold enough at night that I wanted a light coat.

Our itinerary included Florence, San G, Volterra, Greve in Chianti, Bologna, Ravenna, Parma and Rome, so I can't speak for the Amalfi coast, but I would definitely recommend Tuscany and Rome.

OK, we are thinking of arriving in Naples from JFK to spend at least a few nights in Positano( hoping for a couple days of sun) Does anyone have a recommendation if we should rent a car and drive to Siena, OR take a train? Once in Siena we plan to stay several days in the area with a car before driving to Venice which is where we will depart from.

Rent a car to Siena; there's so much to see on the way there it you want to get off the autostrada - Pompeii, the Royal Palace and Gardens of Caserta, Orvieto, Spoleto (if you want to go a little further afield).

We're going to go ahead and get a car but does anyone have any input on whether or not it makes sense to pick up the car for our stay in Positano- it will be late Oct so our thinking is it may be easier to have the car to go from town to town vs. buses which may run on a reduced schedule that time of year.
