Hi LM,

For lodgings in Munich, I recommend the Uhland.

>Do you think staying two nights, heading somewhere else for 2 nights, and then back to Munich would be too much? Or is one good day trip (or overnight trip) enough?

Every time you move, you lose at least 1/2 day.

I would stay in Munich and do daytrips.

Munich is 4 hr from Vienna, 1:30 hr from Salzburg, 2 hr from Innsbruck, 2 hr from Nuremberg, to name a few.

See www.bahn.de for train schedules, prices and ticktes.

Good work Charlie. hey, I must be psychic since I mentioned Munich off the top of my head much earlier in your planning!

With only 6 days I would stay based in one hotel in Munich, not rent a car, travel by train, figure out what to do in Munich, and take a couple day trips somewhere.

The fireworks in Munich are among the best you'll find. If you're looking for tickets for the best parties, you're pretty late.

Get a car (remember it's still peak season) An easy daytrip to go skiing would be Achenkirch or Spitzingsee (both less than 60min driving). Try to avoid the Zugspitze, as it takes to long to get up there.

And from Jan 1st., snow tyres are mandatory if you drive on snow. Tell the rental agency that you want them before you arrive!

I love this little modern hotel in Munich, the rates are reasonable and include a great breakfast!

Its also in the city center and right near the train stop (u-bahn or s-bahn) to Munich Airport.
