Jan;

Italy-12 Spain-7

Have you made a desicion yet or do you need 4 more months....?

It is a difficult one, but I would opt for Spain.
Why?
Even though I speak Italian fluently and have hardly any Spanish, I found
myself incredibly at east there. It was very good value, had great weather, friendly people, cheap transport and, well, an enticing way of life.
Italy, which I like a great deal, seems to me to be less 'raw', perhaps too glossy, more swish.
Whichever way you decide, however, you are sure to have a good time in either place.

Hi Jan, what do you prefer chocolate or strawberries, ....it comes to a point that the choice is personal however some of the advise has been extremely good, now is up to you.
I love both, probably Italy is more fascinating but also is Spain the main rreason I writing is to stree Paul and Jan advise, forget the big cities like Milan and Barcelona stick to the medium ones and you will find it so much fun...
and less money too.
Best wwishes.

I'm about to go to Spain for the first time in October, but my wife and I have travelled to Italy a few times and are completely in love with the country.

The best places to go in Italy no questions asked:

Cinque Terre - you will see nothing like it in your life (5 villages) Riomaggiore great place to base yourselves

Venice - as awesome and full of character as it looks

Capri - beautiful, charming, glamorous

Amalfi Coast - Drive between sorento and salerno - breathtaking stay in Ravello (worth the uphill drive), Sorrento, ceramic shopping in Vietri sul Mare

Florence - awesome - true Italy

Rome, - hard to enjoy the first time, great the second time

Milan - big city, not worth it unless you have a few days to shop and take in modern Italy

Spoleto - romantic, away from tourism

Hope this helps
