Help! Is this "too much Lakes" itinerary?
We are planning to go to Lakes next May 11 and want to relax a bit and will not have a car. 3 days Lago Maggiore (is this too long?)stay Hotel Verbano Isola dei Pescatori, go direct to Lago Garda ,Torri del Benaco stay Hotel Gardesana 4 days (trips to Padua and Verona), Back to Lago Como (in case weather is bad at start of trip) stay 3 days in Menaggio at Bella Vista, then 2 days in Milano before returning. Thanks for any help! Annie

Perfect and having spent time on each lake think your schedule is simply perfect. I guess you could get away with one day less at Maggiore - but consider a day trip to Lake Orta, a tinier lake just to the west but one that's very nice. Or take a boat ride to Locarno, Switzerland for a taste of something different (nice Swiss town with smashing lakeside location).

just been looking at Hotel du lac in Varenna on another thread. Looked lovely.
WHile you are staying on/near lake garda, you will miss a lot if you take two days to take day trips. I think I might decide to do only two out of the three lakes, but i prefer to spend longer in one place than lots of people. |
I like it but then again I love the lakes. But, with no car how do you plan to get to Menaggio---Varenna is a better choice by train.

Not too long at all. We spent three days at Stresa and ran out of time to go to Orta which is what we had planned to do.

I've only been to Lakes Garda and Como but your plan sounds delightful to me. I like theme trips and what could be a better theme than Italian Lakes?

Bob, we stayed in Varenna last time so I thought we could train to Varenna and just take a boat across to Menaggio, no? Thanks for the comments everybody.

Sure, that works, since you know the difference.
