Help in choosing Europe Vacation
Hi,
I am new here and was looking for some help, I was hoping someone could help me locate or suggest someplace in europe for my sister and I to go to this year that is relatively in-expensive or on sale or just the best deal at this time. We would like it to be for 10 days or so but that would include travel time. Also, I would rather not go in the summer. After April 20th to June or after September 1st would be my ideal time. She and I have been to London and we have been to Paris. So I would like to kinda pick someplace else if possible. My husband and I have also been to Paris and all of France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Ireland, Austria, Budapest, Prague, Berlin and most recently to Greece and 5 of it's islands. Debbie of course has not been to quite so many places. I wouldn't mind going back to one of those except the London and Paris destinations because she has already been there but one of the others would be OK. Italy of course is my favorite but I wasn't seeing any really great airfares or deals. Maybe I am just looking in the wrong place. If I could keep the airfares and the hotels to a minimum the rest will be OK. Any help or suggestions on destinations or places to look for deals would really be appreciated. Thanks, VagabondLady |
What about Germany? I didn't see it on your list. We took a train trip from Amsterdam to Zurich, passing along the Rhine area. We stayed two nights in St Goar in a clean hotel for 59€/double. We rode bikes along the river, took a chair lift in Boppard to a cliffside cafe overlooking the hairpin turn of the Rhine and saw the first hour of a wine festival kick off. We took our trip in October and the weather was very pleasant. This is just scratching the surface of Germany - there are so many beautiful places to go. Of course you would want to avoid 'Oktoberfest' as prices and crowding would be much higher during that time (later in Sept). I would look for flights to Frankfurt.

Thanks for the advice Travelnut...
I hadn't really thought of Germany, but now my sister wants to do Italy so I guess she kinda narrowed that part down now. I'm not too particular...I'll go anywhere, anytime to europe. I just love the experience so much. Now I think she wants to go in September and she now says only 8 days total so that means only 6 actual days after taking into account travel time there and back. I love your screen name !!! |
I was also going to suggest Germany. If Italy is your choice, then I would likely opt for a Venice/FLorence combo. There is a plethora of info on here, but you may want to repost for specifics. Spring would also be my preference.

Since you have such a short time, I'd choose one location in Italy and stay there. That kind of travel isn't for everyone, I know, but it's the way I like to go if I'm limited for time. (Italy's a place I plan to visit again and again.)
It also depends on whether you want city or rural. Or if you want to stay in a city with easy access to good day trips. |
OK,
I haven't been back to respond because after much discussion Debbie has decided to do France instead. Not Paris but Northern France. She wants to fly into Paris see the Louvre, the one thing she didn't do last time, then pick up the rental car and drive to Giverny, then Rouen, then to Honfleur then onto Bayuex (sp) for the tapestry then the beaches and onto Mont St Michele then from there to Amboise by Tours to do a couple chateaux then head back to Paris with a quick stop at Chartes along the way then on to the airport and home again. Is this all doable ??? |
