HELP! I'm trying to call Italy and can't figure out the phone number!

I know someone can help me - I've called elsewhere in Italy, but I can't figure out if I need to drop some of these zero's, which is the city code, etc. I'm trying to make hotel reservations and this is the number given: 0039 323 31286. How do I dial from U.S. I tried 011 39 323 31286 and I tried 011 39 0039 323 31286. Help!

I thought that all city coes are supposed to have a leading zero for Italy now...

Thus

011 39 0323 31286

I hope that this is right...

Best wishes,

Rex

Just tried a Yahoo search on "stresa 31286" and it takes me to a hotel booking site called ezbooker.com where they have this listing for Hotel Primavera...

VIA CAVOUR 39
STRESA, 28838
Italy
39 0323 31286

So, that (kind of) confirms my suspicions that you are missing the leading zero in front of the city code, 323.

The inital zero used to be omitted from Italian numbers when calling from abroad, but it must now be dialled.

What would I ever do without all of you! You were right, and I was able to make my reservation at the Hotel Primavera (100 euros for a quad room). Thanks again - it's frustrating when they give you numbers that you don't need, then omit numbers that you do need!
