Help! hotels in florence and bathrooms

has anyone heard of hotel il perseo or hotel san giovanni in florence? also, is it worth it to pay 20+ euros more a night for a private bath? how ncomfortable is it to share a bathroom? Thanks!

Try searching on this topic to see a range of opinions.

My 2 cents worth: it is not a problem at all to share a bath in a clean, decent B & B or old-fasioned inn or small hotel. You rarely find youself even seeing the other sharers, and in good places, where management is particular, you hardly even notice a trace of their existence.

Ohkay - I responded to this question on a thread you started on 5/8. If you didn't see the response here's the link:

By the way - you can top your original thread so you don't have to create a new post.

I've shared bathrooms in the past and they've always been clean and never a problem. Usually there are only 2 or 3 rooms sharing the bath and it's usually available when you want it.

Hi
Re bathroom sharing: let me suggest that you pack light-weight slippers and a robe so that you don't have to put on clothes and shoes in order to walk down the hallway.
I mention this because ordinarily, a robe is something I don't pack.

I once stayed in a very clean B&B but I wouldn't say that I was unaware of the other bathroom sharers. Some of the experience depends on how considerate your fellow users are. Even good management can't necessarily get in to clean the bathroom after every use.

If you are sharing a bathroom with only a few others, it is usually not a problem. However, if your time is limited, and you are sharing with quite a few, you might not want to spend the time waiting to use the shower.

A little piece of advice. If you are out all day and return to your hotel before going out for dinner have a shower then. Most people seem to want the bathroom after coming in from dinner or first thing in the morning. By getting in there first around 5.30pm - 6pm you have first use after the housemaids have done their thing in the morning. It always works for me.
I passed Il Perseo and I believe they were refurbishing it, this was last november, but it may be open again for the summer. In which case it's probably very nice and it's in a very central location although it might be a little noisy at night. Ask for a room at the back.

Personally I *hate* sharing a bathroom. Have only done it once, recently in Amsterdam. Nothing went wrong to complain about, but to me it was not very comfortable at all. I really like smaller 2-3 star hotels, but will spring for a private bath in the future.

I'm with Suze - I'd always pay the extra for my own bathroom.

Apart from the cleanliness issue, which I find off-putting enough, there's just the sheer inconvenience of sharing.

The possibility of having to wait around when you were hoping to make an early start, or feeling that you have to rush in case someone else is waiting doesn't appeal to me at all. And what if you're absolutely bursting for the loo and someone has just decided to have a long soak in the tub?

No, not for me thanks.

I am too impatient to share a bathroom. I do good to share a bathroom with others in my group. I also like the convienence of having a bathroom in the room not down the hall. I typically don't remember somethign to sleep in and especially don't remember a robe. For me its worth the extra $$
