Help, hotel in Rome next to Termini
Hi. We're flying into Rome from LAX and arriving at 9:45 PM. We plan on immediately heading down to the Amalfi Coast, but since our flight arrives so late, we'll have to spend one night in Rome. We're thinking that it'll probably be most convenient to stay close to the Termini versus better areas like Campo di Fiori, Piazza Navona or the Pantheon. Since this is just a quick overnighter, we don't need anything nice. Ideally something clean and less than $150 USD...I see it more as just pure lodging before we wake up early to catch the express to Sorrento or Salerno. Any recommendations for what might fit our needs? We're two 30 year olds who are traveling for our honeymoon. I've picked out some nicer hotels on the way, but I think this night there's no need to do anything super nice. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

check out www.sixbeds.it
it is not a hotel but more like a "upper class hostel" .. so to speak... it is an appartment that has only three rooms with a common bathroom and kitchen where you can make coffee and toast, very clean and homey and close to Termini Station. And you get a voucher for breakfast to go to the downstairs caffeteria to have the breakfast. I stayed there last summer and it was perfect for my budget and very quiet and private. The manager Max is a lovely person, all you need is to let him know what time you arrive so he can check you in ( because he's not there 24/7). the appartment is on 6th floor but there is an elevator. Anyways ... thats one of the options for you - not spending too much and still have a nice room close to termini. P.S. it does get booked out pretty quick in peak season.... |
Hotel Kennedy - 3 short blocks from Termini. Nice rooms and friendly staff.

Hotel Aberdeen on Via Firenze-top pick of Rick Steves,Frommers,Fodors and TRIPADVISOR. Just a couple blocks away in a great neighborhood. Its perfect for a long stay or a short one like you want.Hotel staff is amazing for helping you with any and all of your plans!Price is terrific for having a great breakfast, free wifi, location and nice rooms-I have been using them for over 15 years and it never fails to make my trip to Rome.(I work as an international flight attendant and layover in Rome at least once a month. The Aberdeen is in a much better area than where our airline stays.)

I agree,Aberdeen is hard to beat for your scenario.

I stayed in Hotel Lussemburgo a couple of years ago. Nice and clean and run by a sweet, elderly couple. An Italian breakfast was included in the price. Rooms are small but spotless.
They have no website but you can have a look if you want at booking.com |
Another recommendation for the Aberdeen. Stayed there a few years ago and was very happy with it!

Thanks everyone for the suggestions! The Aberdeen looks nice. Either I'll do that or Hotel Julia which is supposed to be pretty close. Hmmm, here's another thought. My flight lands at 9:45 and we'll have to pick up luggage. We'll probably be jetlagged so we'll probably be wide awake when we arrive and want to grab a bite to eat. I'm still aiming to leave on the early morning express train to Amalfi. Would it be better to stay near the Termini, or should I stay closer to Piazza Navano so that we can get a late-night bite to eat when we arrive. I assume we could always taxi or subway it to the Termini the next morning if we did this. What would you guys suggest? If we stay close to the Termini will there be any late night eateries open or any life? Thanks.

Ditto adrienne's post on the Hotel Kennedy.
Actually it's only 2 short blocks to Termini's side entrance and you could hit Termini with a ball and a couple of bounces from the hotel:-). Stayed at the Kennedy 4x '02-'05 and in that area 4x in 3 other hotels but can't help with late night eats...*way* past my bedtime:-). Regards, Walter |
There is a restaurant within 500 yards of the Aberdeen called Target-pizza,pasta,etc. It has an interesting decor-browns and candle lighting. Pizzas used to be under 10 euros, used to have great grilled seafood, etc. Its a good bet for being close and easy for you?

If you are flying from the states you are going to be really tired when you arrive in Rome. I would suggest spending the night there but plan on not getting the train to the Amalfi Coast till after noon or so-you are going to feel sooooo much better for your honeymoon.
