PLEASE, CAN ANYONE KINDLY TELL ME HOW BAD <BR>IS THE SITUATION AROUND THE CITY CENTER AND<BR>IF IS POSSILBLE TO SEE ANY MONUMENTS AND SO..<BR>WHAT HAPPEN AROUND THE JEWISH QUARTER AND THE<BR>CEMENTARY? THANKS A SOLO AND AVENTURES<BR>TRAVELER.

Have you contacted your hotel to check if they have electricity and/or phone? According to last night's broadcast on CNN there were areas in the city center that had neither. <BR>

I would consider postponing your trip. Prague was hard hit and will take time to get services back in order. See other posts on this subject.

Newspapers here say that at least now everybody is still evacuated from the old town. And you cannot go to the old Jewish quarter either. And how could you, people use boats there – the water level rose over 8 meters and moved with terrible force! And still when the water sinks, there will be tons of mud and treetrunks to be cleaned.

just back from prague yesterday<BR><BR>not making light of what happened there by anymeans but life is going on as usual in many area's of the city<BR><BR>you may consider postpoing your trip for reports are true that certain lowlying areas will be closed for several weeks while the clean up goes on. In the 48 hours i was there i watched the water retreat several feet prob 5--all of the bridges except the charles open<BR>which by now is probably open and there are furiously pumping basements and cleaning the sreet of silt and mud<BR><BR>i was in the castle friday and in drinking in Wecensalas Square Friday night<BR>Saturay - i belive i was in mala strana<BR>walking around<BR><BR>the news espically the US news greatly exerates things some times<BR><BR>I've heard phrases from people? <BR><BR>I heard the city was washed away????<BR>or<BR>someone said to me in Budapest on thursday you can't go there the WHOLE city is under water<BR><BR>then i here on the news this morning about looting...as in like looting after the rodney king riots of something<BR><BR>and now buildings collapsing<BR><BR>don't be sucked in so easy by the press<BR><BR>yes the city flooeded but it's still there<BR>

Yes, the press can be prone to exaggeration, however flooding and especially the level of water in Prague can impact structural foundation of buildings. Water causes ALOT of damage. Additionally, many of the city residents won't be able to return to their homes for several more days. If at all possible, I'd consider revising your travel plans.<BR>
