Help getting from Cinque Terre to Tuscany on Sunday

I have reservations at a B&B (Casali della Aiola) in Tuscany starting on a Sunday night. It it 13km from Siena. I will be coming from Cinque Terre and was planning to drive. However, all convient car rental places seem to be closed on Sunday (Siena closed, La Spezia closed, Pisa and Florence airport only open). Any ideas? If I have to rent at an airport, would Forence or Pisa better (easier to reach via train, less hastle, less out of way). Thanks!

We did the reverse trip to you. We handed our car back at Pisa airport and took a taxi to the train station. The rental company gave us good directions off the freeway into Pisa (from Florence) but it was well signposted and the taxi ride was pretty quick. Pisa airport was pretty small, so easy to find the rental carpark. I think the Florence airport is a long way out of the city and from the train station. Easy freeway from florence to Pisa. No tolls.

James, I am driving myself nuts trying to find somewhere to stay (preferably a B&B that can accmoodate a family of five) near Lucca so I can get easily to Florence and CT for a day. How did you pick your B& B and how did you find it (I know there are tons of sites through the internet but not sure how to decide). Any help would be appreciated and good luck!!! Sandy

James - You can get to Pisa airport conveniently by train (with a change of train at Pisa Centrale) or bus in less than 10 mins.

Hope this helps ...

Thanks Amanda and Steve_James, sounds like the Pisa airport is the way to go. Rootcher, I actually read about the place we are staying on this board...people have only had positive comments. Their website is http://www.tuscany.net/aiola/. The hard part for me was finding a place that was a B&B not a rental with a 5 night minimum stay. It's about 12km north of Siena, so not too close to Lucca. www.tuscany.net has a lot of other options. Hope this helps.

rootcher, have you tried looking at selections listed on http://www.hotel-reservation-italy.com/lucca.htm ?

Thanks James and JBX. I actually went to the Tuscany sight and found a Farmhouse converted into apartments for a great price (it even has a pool). Still searching but will use both your suggestions!! Sandy

Hi James79,

The Florence airport is 5 km from the train station.

See http://www.ataf.net/EN_DNA_Indice.as...;C=31&L=en
for shuttle bus information. Costs 4E.

A taxi, I am told, from FSMN to the airport is about 10E.
