Help from Gatwick to hotel

Hello everyone. We are leaving for London this Friday YEAH!! We will be flying into Gatwick. We would like to take the cheapest form of transportation from the airport to the hotel. I am assuming that is the train. Out hotel is the Quality Crown Hotel Paddington. The address is 144 Praed St. London. Does anyone know how to get there and how much it will be? Thanks

The cheapest way is probably the easyBus to Victoria and then the Tube to Paddington. The price for the bus depends on the time of travel. I wouldn't take it during peak time as there'll be tons of traffic. Just type easybus in Google and you'll easily find the link.

However, if you take the Southern train to Victoria plus tube to Paddington, it will at most be a few pounds more than the EasyBus, and likely save hours of time. So this is an instance where it might pay off to spend a bit more.

How long are you staying in London, and where are you going afterwards, as that can affect the advice you should get about your transport options.

A one-day off-peak Travelcard from Gatwick is £11.40. This covers the journey from Gatwick by Southern or First Capital Connect trains (not Gatwick Express), and all tubes, trains and buses for the day in Greater London (zones 1 to 6).

I just checked out the easy bus website. It looks pretty easy. Can I just get one that day or does a reservaton need to be made in advance? I am not sure as to how long customs and luggage will take? We will be in London the entire week. So once we get there we will be staying. We are also arrivingon Sat. morning so there should not be any traffic. Coming back the following Friday morning may be more of an issue. Please help. thanks again

Just back from Uk, Ireland and France.
Before going I saw many posts about, yeah it is so easy to get around on the tube from the airports or train stations, either in Uk or France. But, let me tell you, if you are young and got a backpack, fine. If you are a little older, don't be stupid and listen to people telling you how easy it is to get around on the tubes. It is not! We saw many, many people trying to make their way up and down steps with their bags and kids. Dont forget not all stations have lifts or moving stairs. Also, trying walking up a broken down moving stairs with luggage. That was one of our forms of fun, watching people trying to get around the tube stations. We would always say, "been reading how easy it is to travel by tube on the travel sites?" There are too many easy ways to get from airports and train stations to kill yourself on the tubes. Also remember, which you get out onto street level you have to roll your bags down some of the roughest sidewalks in the world, most are cobblestone and no sidewalk cuts at crossings. Dot2Dot was great in London, from our hotel to train platform, met at airport train station and taken to correct gate. Paris was Capitol Shuttle, expecting a Van airport, but was met with sedan car for just my brother and myself. It may not be the cheapest but it is the best way. Trust me.

Oh, I forgot, if for some reason you don't like your room, try the Queensway Hotel on Sussex Gardens, two blocks from Paddington. Try for Room #17. Large room for London Standards, it has a double and single bed. We stayed there for 12 nights.
Happy trails

Hellowkittygeorgia: Trust us -- you DO NOT want to take the bus in from Gatwick. It would be a truly false economy. Assuming you arrive in the a.m. (which most flights from the US do) you would be riding a bus for hours through south London. Not a scenic route and definitely not a fast one.

Driving in from Gatwick is really difficult.

The absolute cheapest would be the coach to Victoria and then another bus to Paddington - but door to door would probably take about 3 hours. Train and tube will take less than 1 hour.

(If cheapest route from LGW was your main criteria you probably should have booked a hotel somewhere else other than Paddington)

Don't get on the Gatwick Express, as it costs a lot more and is only a little faster. Use the one-day travel card and get on a train that takes you to Victoria.

You can then get on the tube and take the westbound circle line to Paddington. Be warned, there are lots of steps at both ends.

An easier option is to get a bus from Victoria to Paddington from bus stop H (by the Apollo Theatre side). Take Bus 36 or Bus 436 towards Paddington Station. They run every 3-6 minutes, your fares are covered by the travelcard and the journey time is about 25 minutes.
