FErry=wise Samos + Rhodes are in 2 different island groups; the way to hop from one group to another is to take a ferry to Patmos.... then connect withone theat goes to Rhodes. U may have to spend the nite in Patmos.... we did the reverse in '06.
What a hoot. WE arrived at 12 midnight in Patmos harbor... walked about 100 Meters to tiny hotel manned (womanned?) by 2 ancient smiling crones in black dresses, no English. I helped 1 of them get the sheets out of the cupboard and make up 2 beds. Slept well, 20E for a double, lovely cfe next door w HUUUUGE glass of orange juice for 2 E @ breakfast, then OFF on a superfast ferry to Samos. |
Thanks Jan,
How long were the ferry rides from Samos to Patmos? Patmos to Rhodes? This is one route we've considered. Thanks! |
One question...
any ideas when Express Jet will announce their summer schedule? |
Hi Rogerhopper.
On August 9, 2007 the sales rep from Sky Express advised me that the summer 2008 schedule would be out mid April. She did send me the summer 2007 schedule and advised it would likely be much the same in 2008. If you would like, I can give you the 2007 flight times - let me know. I had planned on driving from Ephesus to Marmaris at the end of May, then taking the ferry to Rhodes for a few days, and then flying the short hop on Sky Express from Rhodes to Santorini. I have since changed my plan because it drove me crazy that I could not complete my flight arrangements til mid April, I was worried about the size of the Sky Express "fleet" and I had no idea what the price would be. Now we are now taking the ferry from Cesme to Chios and spending two nights there. We are flying Aegean Air to Santorini (via Athens) for Euro 65 each (all in). The flight is 4 hours start to finish. We leave Chios at 9:05 and arrive Santorini 1:05. |
Years ago, island hopping between greek and turkish island was always stressing because of the customs. Has this changed? Maybe WTnow has some experience on that?
|
We had no problems with customs between Turkey and Samos or Rhodes and Turkey. Both were quick and easy as were the ferries.

Hi Rogerhopper;
If its not too late; Do the Ephesus and overnight Sirince or Selcuk drive to Pamukkale and see all the sights overnight Pamukkale, Next day Prienne, Miletus Didyma on the way to Bodrum instead of Marmaris. Stay and extra day in Bodrum from where you can also cross to Rhodos. Bodrum is better than Marmaris in many ways. Best Regards from cold snowy Cappadocia, Murat |
We had an extremely long wait at customs in Rhodes after arriving from Marmaris. It took us almost two hours to get through. The customs people were questioning and picking through the luggage of every person who wasn't Greek or a middle-aged American. It was horrible. THis happened in early July of last year.
