help finding shows, concerts in London
 

We will be in London for only 2 days, May 30 & 31 and I would love to find out if we could get tickets in advance to any particular show or concert that might interest my daughter and I - where would I search for that info, i.e. who is in town playing or what great play or show is going on? Thanks for all the help and assistance - this board is great!

There is a site "official london theater"...can't remember if it is .com or .uk or what. There is a recent post on this topic titled "London" and there are links. I have heard that Wicked is really wonderful and it is playing through June. Unfortunately my daughter and I won't be there until late July so we'll miss it. There are a lot of shows playing. That official london site is easy to navigate.

Check www.ticketmaster.co.uk for concert listings.

The website Kellye is referring to is http://www.officiallondontheatre.co.uk/. One of the useful features of that site is the "TKTS Ticket Booths" page, which lists the shows that are available at the half-price ticket booths that day (not a guarantee that a particular show will be available the day you go, but an indication of what's usually available).

I also find http://www.londontheatre.co.uk/ to be a very useful site, especially because the page for each show usually includes links to the newspaper reviews.

If you buy theater tickets in advance, be sure to check out the "Seats to buy or avoid" advice on www.theatremonkey.com before making your purchase.

Once you find which show you want to see, call the theater directly to book your tickets. It will save you a service charge. If you have the theater seat plan in front of you when you call, you'll be able to see where the seats are exactly. I found all the box office personnel very friendly and easy to work with.

Kellye, Wicked will be playing in July. I have tickets to see Wicked in September at the Apollo Theatre. I noticed some websites don't release tickets until closer to the show dates so perhaps that is where you were looking.
I bought the tickets from UK ticketmaster and they were delivered to me in about 8 days.

What marvelous news, mdarch! Thanks! I will check that out then. My daughter's birthday is in a month, so that might be "the" surprise present for her!

More specific question--found Wicked tickets and want to book them for my daughter's birthday present. Stalls or circle in the Apollo? There were two in the center back row of stalls--are the floors slanted? Would I do better if we can find something in one of the lower circles? I need to grab these since the choices were good. Just wondered if I needed to definitely go for the 40 tickets or if I should go higher (and a little cheaper possibly too). Thanks for any advice from those of you with experience on this.

I just bought a pair of tickets to Wicked online at www.discounttheatre.com. I paid 35 pounds each for tickets in the stalls (lower orchestra) that normally sell for 60 pounds. I understand that this is a reputable ticket agent.
